Sugar and Cricket died horrendously. Were you hoping until the end that they would survive? Why do you think the author sacrificed them so cruelly? Was there an intended meaning?

While their suffering was awful, I cannot say that I had much sympathy for any of the characters by this point in the book.

I did think they were going to be saved. My guess is that the author wanted to show how sick Amanda was with their cruel murders.

I wasn't rooting for any of them either. It was a very inventive way to kill someone. They all had deep flaws and how much the crazy gene and incest played, I don't know. I just didn't care a whole lot about any of them.

It was gross but I though they were goners.

I actually felt bad for Sugar. She was left with a crazy brother and a younger sister to care for. She had no money or future prospects and was with a man who treated her shabbily. Her death was cruel and prolonged.

I thought they’d be saved, discovered by Caitlyn before it was too late. Of all of the murders, this was the most awful and I wondered whether the author valued them less, too.

WOW! Good point about the author valuing them less. I was sure they would be saved. Caitlyn thought they deserved some of the family money. It would have been a better ending if they were saved and Caitlyn made sure they got their piece of the pie, so to speak.

My 1 stars are rare too. I gave this a 2 because I enjoyed the mystery despite the issues with the writing and the romance.

I didn't care much for Cricket, but I was hoping that Sugar would be saved. I had a lot of respect for her to try to become better than her circumstances and keep her family together.

What an interesting point that the author killed off the sisters and let the brother live. I really couldn't stand him.
