SOLVED. Middle grade book (I would assume since I read it in grade 7 or 8) that is about a Black boy who is given his grandfather's watch.

This is a middle grade time travel novel about a Black boy who is given his grandfather's watch. This watch is like a time travel device. Something happens and the boy is transported to the time period when America had slavery. He meets another boy (and maybe a girl too?) at this house where the slaves are required to do things like pick cotton from the fields. When the boy is discovered and taken to the house, he has to give up his Jordon (or Nike?) shoes and the people are confused by the shoes because they obviously don't belong in that time period. I think the watch is confiscated as well. So the boy spends most of the rest of the book trying to find a way back home. Please help me find what book this is. It's been bothering me for such a long time that I don't know the name of it. It was a really good book too :(
