Question 10 asks to compare and contrast Alistair's return from the dead with Julien's. Which of them do you think will have a harder time returning to his old life?

Kimberly Thorpe | 237 comments I hope Alistair has an impossible time returning to his old life. HAHA

I know good storytelling requires a villian, but I don't want Alistair to have an easy time doing anything. I am sure there will be some character that will accept and be glad of his return, but I am clearly on Team Malcolm!

I think Julian's return was easier because he had "positive" relationships with the central characters. Especially when you look at his relationship with Hubert. Yes, he has done some terrible things. Yes, he is still very dangerous as an agent , but I think he is an agent for progressive change. Even Hubert understands that Julian's return was needed.

I wonder where Amelia will fall when the truth of Alistair's return becomes public...

Yes lots of good point, Kim! Just as we were talking about the support of the other characters helping Nerezza and Ben, Julien has a strong support system. We don't exactly know Alistair's circumstances, but he has enemies he is trying to check/vanquish to come back, as well as apparently needing a royal pardon.

I agree with Kimberly!

I have a hard time understanding how Alistair could just return from the dead and take his possessions back from Malcolm. You know, legally and practically.

Not surprising there isn't a lot of sympathy for Alistair! Technically everything Malcolm inherited still belongs to Alistair, just as the Carfax inheritance still belongs to Julien. Practically Malcolm could protest and force Alistair to go to court and prove who he is, but Malcolm wouldn't do that. He has issues already with having inherited from Alistair, he really doesn't want to have things that aren't rightfully his. So if Alistair asked, Malcolm would just walk away. However, Alistiar obviously had reasons for faking his death and doesn't feel he can safely re-emerge at this point. That's why he's trying to get a pardon.

Kimberly Thorpe | 237 comments Malcolm also has the inheritance from Arabella. I am sure he & Suzanne could purchase another house even in Berkeley Sq, but I hate to see Alistair gain anything. With the destruction of the League, I hope there is also a removal of Alistair. He could join Nepolean on Elba. ;-)

Alistair on Elba with Napoleon could be a book in itself :-). Malcolm, as he says to Mélanie has plenty of money. Houses in Berkeley Square were very rare as were London houses in general on a square garden, but they could certainly get another house.

Diane (dideo74) | 61 comments I believe Alistair’s return from the dead will be very difficult, more so then Julien’s, because he obviously did something wrong. And I believe the something wrong was something treasonous. Otherwise, why else does he want Frances to intercede n his behalf with the Prince Regent!

Well, Julien committed treason too. But he got the proof back and he got Hubert on his side, which makes him pretty safe.

Diane (dideo74) | 61 comments And Alistair doesn’t have the support/backing that Julien has. Of course, I just don’t like Alistair, so I don’t want him to succeed.

Yes, Julien has the core group of characters, though in TAVISTOCK PLOT before Hubert supports Juilen's taking over the title, he's anticipating much more of a fight. Alistair does have some allies, thought at this point we don't quite know who.
