I read this book in 2019. It has a boy who lives in the zoo where his parents work (and also live). He has a friend who always wears pink and is the daughter of the owner of the zoo. There is a poacher in the zoo and in the end it is revealed that there were precious rocks inside the poached animals that were taken out by the doctor there during the autopsies. Also, I think the zoo's mascot was a hippo.
