SOLVED. Book about a ship figurehead in a pond. [s]

I read this book in the Mid 1970's. It was about a kid (boy or girl) that went to stay at a house or a hotel. When looking in a pond the kid saw a face (it ended up being a figure head of a ship. (maybe treasures were being stolen). One clue was a book that when the pages were fanned open showed a map. No sure if it was a series but I do not think it was Nancy Drew or Hardy Boys. Thanks

Is the book you're looking for a children's/ YA book? If not it could it be Face in the Pond by Clarissa Ross. Protagonist is not a child, though.
