Standalone BOTM- Cinderella is Dead

It's halfway through the year! Can you believe it but another month means another BOTM! For June, aka Pride Month, so we're going to be reading Cinderella is Dead as the standalone!

Also a reminder that a book club meeting will be happening over Google Meets on June 5th!

yay! I'm starting to read this book today probably! I tried starting it yesterday but I was stuck in a reread of one of my favourite series, KOTLC.

Just finished reading chapter 6: (view spoiler)[ I feel bad for many of the characters in this book. It's sad how the women have no rights and are forced to go to the ball. I feel bad for the ones who are stuck with an awful guy like the seamstress.

I find it a little strange that the guys can test the girls to see if they have the Cinderella book memorized.

Chapter 13: (view spoiler)[ Poor Sophia... I wasn't expecting her dad to react that way. Also I feel so bad for Liv! I'm a little confused on why all of a sudden she was found dead with white hair instead of her normal hair color. I wonder what the king's guards did to her. (hide spoiler)]

I'm currently on chapter four and I like how this book uses the retelling trope. most retellings I read have tried to spin the story a different way but here they are using the story for the plot. So that's cool and unique but I'm not sure how I feel about the story yet. Cause I'm a little intrigued but not completely sucked in

I've read up to chapter 16 so far. (view spoiler)[ It was interesting to learn what really happened to Cinderella and the other characters in the fairytale is different than what the king has led them to believe. The idea that the fairy godmother could potentially be an evil witch makes me want to read on and find out if thats true. I'm curious to read more about the "curse".

One thing that I'm not really a fan of is I feel the connection between Sophie and Constance is more insta-love. I kind of wish it wasn't from the very beginning Sophia immediately likes her. I'm probably picky because I like a good enemies-to-lovers type of story the best 😂 (hide spoiler)]

Just finished reading chapter 24 (view spoiler)[ I wasn't expecting the current king and Prince Charming to be the same person! And things are slowly starting to make sense for why Cinderella went up to the castle. It's too bad her plan to kill the king and end the curse failed.

Just finished the book! It was a good story overall!! (view spoiler)[It was a pretty predictable story, but I do like how there were some twists. Especially with the revelations that the witch Amina ended up the King's mother! Didn't expect that to happen! I liked how at the end, Constance was the new ruler and they abolished all the past rules and worked towards bringing equality to the women. (hide spoiler)]

ok. So I'm on chapter 8 and...(view spoiler)[ this world is terrible. The women in this world believe this is how the world should be or how the world just is because it's all they've ever known. they have been made to feel powerless. but I also wondered why is Sophia out of everyone there one of the few girls who are brave enough to stand up and speak out? I get that they're scared and they have every right to be but I wonder what makes her different? I like Sophia's spirit too and I'm interested to see how they escape they're situation with the ball. I'm about halfway through this book and (view spoiler)[ Liv being dead was terrible, especially when those guard still talked smack about her after being dead. also I feel like we didn't get enough of those characters before she ran away and found the tomb. I also felt bad for Sophia when her father wouldn't take her in. (hide spoiler)]
