YA probably, main character is in high school, basketball player, injury from car accident

SPOILERS!! I remember so much of this book but not the title or author, I’d love some help!
- boy goes into highschool, takes the bus because can’t drive yet, only friend on bus is from elementary school
- best player on the team. I remember a part talking about having to do a drill in a certain amount of time, and he almost always was the one to do it for his team
- at some point there is an accident, something with his hand, and he can no longer play basketball
- there is also a bad car accident, but I can’t remember if that is on top of the other injury or what causes the injury
- OH he was in the car accident on his way to give a necklace(?) to his ex-girlfriend, bought it before they broke up (he was not driving) (friend you was got distracted by his crush walking on the sidewalk)
- stuff about how he used to spend lunch playing basketball, now he doesn’t know what to do since he can’t play
- eventually takes new basketball (gift from mom that he hidden in closet) out and start playing around
- works on endurance by running
- works out or plays ball from sun up to sun down to get back in the game
- big championship game with super good player on other team comes, he surprises everyone by coming in after halftime, really good defense so guards that guy the whole team. can’t remember which team won in the end
- also maybe something about a surgery which is why he was out of basketball in the first place?

Alright that’s all the details I remember (and some I thought of while writting this - including that he took girlfriend to school garden to give necklace and instead she broke up with him!) Thank you for any help!! I read this sometime between summer - fall 2020
