Theresa | 15655 comments It's June! Feels like time is racing past. I'm almost nostalgic for the slower pace we all experienced last year at this time.

There was another terrific breakthrough today on that big client case I have -- on a different issue! While I know this progress is not likely to continue so positively for my clients, this is all bringing us much closer to the final resolution, and concluding more than 2 years of work.

And, since BookNBlues needs us to keep sending positive energy and vibes to her kitty, here's the picture of the beauty for all to see:

description

I for one am really looking forward to lighter reads this month. I have light short story collections, but my Unofficial Trim was Gertrude Stein stories - not light - and even the Jhumpa Lahiri was a little more serious that I really wanted. Thrillers, cozies, regency romance, here I come!

Meli (melihooker) | 4165 comments OMG, what a cute kitty!
I have to live vicariously through my cat moms and dads because I can't have one.
My husband is not OCD, but he gets anxious just thinking about cat on the kitchen counter or cat hair. I pressed the issue thinking he just doesn't like cats and he was visibly anxious when we discussed it so I decided to let it go :P And we have a dog which takes up enough time and attention.

I am also looking forward to lighter reads this month! I have been reading so much depressing shit.

Started The Kiss Quotient and it is great fun so far, and steamy!

Also reading Tender Is The Flesh for fly the skies.
Not light at all, but in my comfort zone of disturbing horror shit.
Look at the synopsis and you will get the idea 🤮

Book Concierge (tessabookconcierge) | 8441 comments I'm also really looking forward to some light reading this month. Decided to try the SRC challenge again. Spent all day building my spreadsheet and now I have to figure out what will fit. The first month is usually easy because I can find a place for virtually anything, but as the season progresses the requirements narrow.

That's like the Popsugar Challenge. I am almost down to the books that have to be selected rather than rely on random.

What is the SRC challenge? I'm doing the Around the Year challenge, and I'm almost done. I might try something new.

Re pets - We haven't started seriously thinking about a new dog yet, but that doesn't stop our friends from sending us pictures of dogs in need of a home. Most are rescues, but today my neighbor showed me pics of a litter of black (which is unusual) Cavalier King Charles Spaniel puppies that are only two weeks old. I love to snuggle with her dil's dogs when they visit. It's a good thing I couldn't see their faces, because I they're hard to resist.

message 6: by Robin P (new)

Robin P | 5798 comments SRC is Seasonal Reading Challenge, a group on Goodreads - I just joined it a couple months back, BC is more knowledgeable. It is definitely a challenge as you can end up reading 50-60 books in a quarter. Or not, it's up to you how much you take on. It's not social like this group, just the challenge. You can look at the group and see what kind of prompts they have without joining it.

Rachel N. | 2249 comments My good news is that I got selected to do a work assignment for our headquarters in DC. It's 100% virtual so I don't have to worry about traveling. I'll be helping develop our training program. I'm looking forward to starting and the change of pace.

I'm sending positive thought for BnB's kitty to be fully healed soon.

message 10: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments Positive thoughts and prayers to BookNBlues for her kitty. <3

I'm also doing the Popsugar challenge and am making pretty good progress. Although the last two years I was finishing books for it on 12/31. My goal is to finish it early this year. Our tag for this month will help me get a handful.

I'm reading Mary Kay Andrews for the first time.

I'm able to get back to reading a bit more. I'm still doing a lot of audio chasing the pup around but I'm figuring her out and my husband steps up when he gets home from work to give me a break.

I keep getting stuck on books and keep adding to my 'Currently Reading' list without finishing them. Hopefully some light, fun books will help snap that streak and I can get back into a groove and finish up all the outstanding ones that I have. I'd love to end the year with an almost empty 'Currently Reading' list.

I missed that is the name of your cat. My daughter named her cat Roxie because it seemed a good name for a feisty girl. She got her from a rescue, probably 1-2 years old, and at the last minute, they said "By the way, she has a bullet in her leg"! It was a huge endeavor to get a cat last winter, like trying to get into an Ivy League college - essays, recommendations, lots of forms, before you could even see the animal. This cat is so playful and active that my daughter is thinking of getting a 2nd cat to keep her busy, especially she will be going back to work 2-3 days a week.

message 13: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments Roxy was my never got to come baby girl’s name. Roxanne Simone or Roxanne Allison. I always believed she would, and have a special feeling about that name.

When I first saw the tag "Beach Read", Mary Kay Andrews was the first author that came to mind. I've read a few and enjoyed each of them. So I had to go peek at your page to see which Mary Kay Andrews book you are reading. I haven't read Beach Town though. Hope it helps get you out of your slump!

I'm on a lot of cat groups on FB, and an alternative to the Cone is a baby onesie (premie size, I think). Much harder for them to escape from that and more comfortable for them.

When my Midnight had his surgeries (two in one summer) a few years ago, there was no keeping his cone on him. Luckily the vet said that if he wasn't licking the incision, I could leave it off (and he wasn't).

message 26: by Jgrace (new)

Jgrace | 3955 comments I had to google that onesie idea. I know that cones never worked for one of my corgis. We put him in a thundershirt to cover an incision. I'd never heard of anything like that for a cat. But look at what I found!

Our world is slowly getting back to where we can feel comfortable. It's great that you can take Yoga. For me, being in the P.T. gym with other patients who are working on their own issues feels good too.

Thanks Joanne and Robin, for your kind thoughts!

Wow! You are on a roll. I'm impressed.

Robin, interesting about your daughter's cat.

We named her Roxanne for the Police song, but it was quickly shortened to Roxie. Our other cat's name is Rosie, so they go together.

So glad to see everyone cautiously venturing out. We had our first meal at a restaurant last week, but did take the outside seating and will probably continue with that for a while.

message 36: by Amy (new)

Amy | 12953 comments We have a Rosie dog. Dandy and Rosie. I wanted to name the new puppy Daisy, and so did young curly top. But with Dandy being sick, everyone thought Daisy was too close. Now with Dandy being a wonder dog and living (well) 16 months past dire diagnosis. she probably could have been Daisy. Except that she's so totally Rosie. It's perfect.

Daisy would have been a cute name, but I like Dandy as well and it seems like it suits with everything turning out Dandy.

We had cats named Willie and Nelson(often shortened to Nellie). We thought at first that it was kind of ridiculous to name him Nelson, but he turned out to be really a Nelson kind of cat.

Theresa, missed your post while I was writing mine. I love those! I am so in sync with them. After going through shutting down and working at home, and being about to retire, I decided that I would never wear uncomfortable clothes again.

message 39: by Charlotte (new)

Charlotte | 1701 comments I love learning of all the different names people choose for their pets and why!

I loved having an Kevin and Doug (from the movie Up!) and that Kevin was a girl just like the bird in the movie. I miss Kevin greatly!

Bender was my husband's dog before we met and is named after Futurama. Since it's not a show I ever watched I thought he was just being egotistical since hubby's name is Ben.

I think I've already mentioned that our newest member, Tarre, is named after a Star War's Mandalorian character.

If everyone could send positive thoughts.. Doug has decided that he doesn't like food after a day of throwing up, yesterday. At least he has stopped throwing up. I found out he's not a fan of chicken and he ate some lean ground beef this morning but it was a struggle to get him to eat a decent amount. I called the vet yesterday and will be calling them when they open for their thoughts and I'll be heading to the pet store in a bit to get wet food. He is and has always been a picky eater but now he's taking it to a new level. I'm sure he's fine, I'm just a big worrier and want him acting more like himself again.

Charlotte, keep us posted about Doug. My thoughts are with you. It sounds much like the start of Roxie's ordeal, with the vomiting and not eating.

Theresa | 15655 comments @BooknBlues - I had basically gone to easier more comfortable clothes at work ages ago. If I needed a suit, I wore a nice fitting pant suit with tank tops under the jacket...no worry about buttons gaping or flashing when sitting at an open front table. I also wore my Easy Spirit black suede clogs - again comfort. There is a lot of freedom when you are boss of a small firm and technology then has you participating in phone conferences rather than in person.

However, any bra my girls will ever need is NOT going to be completely comfortable!

BTW my favorite of the cartoons is the guy looking at the ironing board....

That was me a few months ago....I don't remember why. May have been pressing curtains or needlework, not clothes. I just don't remember.

Theresa | 15655 comments When we were growing up, we generally had at least one cat named Bishou, always named by my father. Never knew or thought to ask origins of the name. Until I was in my 20s. On a visit home, meeting the newest kitten he had named Bishou, I asked. He said when he was growing up the cat was always named Bishou after the local movie theater. The penny dropped: BISHOU was a phonetic spelling of Bijoux, as there was a Bijoux theater in his town.

Bijoux also means jewel in french...not that the family was French. German actually.
