"Late last night and the night before
Tommyknockers, Tommyknockers
knocking at the door.
I want to go out;
don't know if I can,
'cause I'm so afraid
of the Tommyknocker man."

I'm posting June's read a day early because I'm working tomorrow and I know I'll forget lol but this month we're delving into some science fiction with The Tommyknockers! We're still going along with Kayla from BooksandLala's buzzword readathon and her prompt for June is "name/title" which works perfectly with The "Tommy"knockers.

The Tommyknockers is a 1987 science fiction novel following the idyllic small town of Haven, Maine. It starts out with novelist Bobbi Anderson going for a walk in the woods near her home and stumbling over a metal object protruding from the ground. The object soon takes over her, and many of the townsfolk's, lives. The more they are drawn to it the more it changes them...in more ways than one.

It was notably written during the tail end of King's substance abuse and he has come out and said it's not one of his favorites because of that, but I honestly really like it. There's something about science fiction in the summer that really speaks to me. Maybe I've watched "E.T." or "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" one too many times during a hot summer night, lol.

A 1993 mini-series was made for ABC starring Jimmy Smits and Marg Helgenberger that was met with a not great reception. However, as of 2018, "The Conjuring" filmmaker James Wan and "IT" producer Roy Lee have both been signed on to create a feature film. Although I did enjoy the original mini-series I think it could definitely use some updating so I'm super stoked to see what could come of it.

This is a great read to kick off summer! Have you seen the original mini-series? Are you excited for the possibility of a movie? Can't wait to see what everyone thinks!

This is my second attempt at this book. I had posted it a few years back and I wasn't able to read it. Crossing my fingers during this summer I'm able to finish some of these half read King books lol.

Honestly it is a little slow going at first. I had to find the audiobook to get through the first time I read it.

Aleecia-Marie Doyle | 3 comments I’m kind of excited to start this one! But I need to find a copy of it! I’ll probably get to reading it near the end of the month.

Justin Mertz | 1 comments Hi, I'm new to the group and excited to do a read-along with other King fans!

I tried to read this book a few years ago, but didn't finish it. Life got busy I guess! I'm excited to get through it this time, as I really do like the premise and feel it has a lot of potential. From what I recall of it, King establishes a strong sense of setting/place, and assembles a good size cast of characters.
