Judging by chatter & GoodReads ratings Jim Butcher's most popular series is his Harry Dresden series.

I noticed he has another series called Codex Alera that I've honestly never even heard about. Has anyone else read this series? It starts with Furies of Calderon. Care to recommend it if you have??

Any other books or short stories by Jim Butcher you'd recommend??

Elena My husband and I both love the Dresen books. He loves Codex Alera, he read one after the other and keeps asking me if I already have preordered the next one for him. I haven't read them but he thinks I won't like them because there is a lot of battles in them. That is all I can tell...I plan to read the first one anyway.

Jessica | 66 comments The Alera books are epic fantasy with heavy military leanings. I enjoy both series. But I LOVE LOVE LOVE his Dresden books. The Alera books are about the only epic fantasy I read these days.

Melodie (melodieco) Tried the first Codex Alera book and couldn't finish it. Not my thing. LOVE Harry, tho!

Paula (pauldajo) I know quite a few men who like the Codex Alera series. From the descriptions they give of the books, I don't think I want to try the Codex series. I do however love the Dresden Files.

Elvia (elvb) I've never been about epic fantasy so I never tried The Codex series. I Probably shouldn't just not read it so maybe...eventually...someday I'll give it a try. :) I love Harry though.

Jessica | 66 comments Most epic fantasy spends gobs of time outlining the world. Butcher does this amazing job of giving you the info you need in pieces that don't feel like world building. And his characters are (as always) phenomenal! He knows how to create a fantastic bad guy, just as well as he creates his likeable rabble rousers. The first book has the least military stuff in it. And the further into the series you get the more of that you encounter.

Is there any humor in the Codex series?

Jessica | 66 comments not anything like what you get with Harry.
