Well, here I go, into the breach. This is my first tome, and first time, and the Group Rules say it's ok to tote my wares. So, I hereby tote.
'Stories Of An Awkward Size' is a collection of five of my stories. They are near-future, hard-SF, and lean somewhat into Slipstream, in that the everyday misbehaves in strange ways.
Topics covered include Graffiti, Virtual Reality, the nature of Consciousness, Drones (that is, UAVs), and Immortality.
The title comes from (1) I tend to write to an awkward size - 'long smokes' or near-novellas, (2) It suits the mood of the stories, and (3) I just liked it.
This volume is intended to be the first of a series of anthologies under the 'Awkward' moniker, and I am also working on two (actually... three) novels in the background.
I am an Australian writer, and my main writing interests are near future, hard SF, emphasis on HARD. I like stuff that is within the boundaries of plausability - for those boundaries are infinite. The real universe trumps our imaginations, and just keeps doing so.
I do like modern, near-future writers like Sterling, Stross, Doctorow. I'm a big fan of Greg Egan. And my classical loves have to be Arthur C. Clarke and Philip K. Dick (yes, I know Dick isn't strictly hard-SF, but by heck he was conceptual!) - maybe with the odd smidgin of AE.Van Vogt ('Fulfillment' - wow, a story just decades ahead of its time).
Anyway - hello!
If you are interested in reviewing 'Stories Of An Awkward Size', please drop a reply here or message me (bear with me, I haven't completely figured out all of GoodReads' mechanisms yet, so I might not reply immediately). At the moment I can only provide you with the interior PDF and cover - sorry, can't afford hardcopy giveaways just yet, but I am going to be running a giveaway competition soon.
Mobi (Kindle) and EPub (Kobo, everything else...) versions are on the way, but I can't give a date for their arrival yet.
And now... to wade in to the other topics, oh boy!
UPDATE: Kindle version has arrived!
