We are now at the conclusion of our other book selection, The Phone Booth at the Edge of the World by Laura Imai Messina. If you didn't get a chance to read it, it is available at MPC Library online by going to www.mpc.edu/library.
Yui had recovered after being injured at Bell Gardia from the typhoon. Takeshi and Yui had decided to get married. Yui continued doing her radio talk-show. Yui also was expecting a baby. Did Yui ever pick up that wind phone and speak to her mother and daughter? Did Yui have a boy or girl? (I'll let you read the book to find out both).
This was a wonderful book. It speaks about life and death, happiness and unhappiness and how all of it is part of the cycle of life. Every day is important and every moment with loved ones is special. The devastating losses that Takeshi and Yui had were heartbreaking. I was cheering for them until the very end. I hope you have a chance to read this book if you have the chance. Let me know what you thought of it.
Our June-July summer selection is your choice. Let us know what you are reading. Our Fall book selection poll will be coming in late July for voting.
