Read this in around 2010. It's a picture book with really beautiful detailed illustrations on each page. There's a wizard/magician boy with a cat and i think he's trying to get to magician school? He goes through many tests or trials, and each test is a different optical illusion. One of the pages is a garden where you have to count all the cats you can see, some of the branches create negative space that look like cats, some of the bushes look like cats etc. There's a page that messes with the perspective and there are like 10 clowns and you have to guess which clown is the tallest. There's the classic water that can't flow up hill but does, and the stairs and archways that defy laws of physics. Lots of cute small characters everywhere.
