Olivia Limoges owns several properties she rents in Oyster Bay, North Carolina and she owns a high class restaurant. She owns a standard poodle, Captain Haviland, who accompanies her everywhere. Olivia has started writing a book and is invited to join the local writers group. One of the other members is murdered and he is found with a haiku next to his body. Olivia and the other members of the writers group decide to help the police find the killer. There isn't a lot of information given about Olivia except that her dad disappeared when she was a child. There is no real explanation of why she is so wealthy. The killers reasons for the crime really didn't make a whole lot of sense and the crime is solved 50 pages before the end of the book leaving a lot of filler at the end. I did like the members of the writers group and the townsfolk so I'm going to read the second book in the series and see if some of the issues I had with this one are resolved.
