Juvenile Sci Fi. Alien kidnaps Earth child to keep as a pet. Read around 1977-1980.

One book that I have not been able to remember enough to find it again. The basic plot was a kid from earth gets kidnapped by an alien kid as a pet. The alien kid over the course of the story realizes that the earthling kid should not be a pet. I read it as a child, probably between the ages of 10 and 12. Any ideas or hints?
