So, the The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard Training Manual is finished - its a quick, very funny read, especially if you ever watched Dad's Army - and for now I've popped it in for the green cover for the Brigantine.

The Walmington-on-Sea Home Guard Training Manual As Used by Dad's Army by George Mainwaring

If anyone wants to move it later, it can be used in various other categories. Especially the short book ones (128pg)

Aimee (pebbles320) Nice work! We should have one of each ship now I think?

message 103: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Woohoo! If we don't get our fleet updated I'll check with Emily tomorrow since our spreadsheet wasn't updating for her before.

Jen K | 572 comments Love the Muppets!! Amazing work everyone. Now we are truly sailing into the weekend....

message 105: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments 154 pages today, which included finishing off My Lovely Wife. I need to go to bed now so I can't look at the spreadsheet, but feel free to add it wherever needed.

Mornin' mateys

I'd say our fleet is looking good!

I started The Mortal Word yesterday evening, so I'll be working on that today. It fits in various places.

Out of curiousity, is this blue or green? It looks like both to me at different times.

Joyce | 614 comments Your book is eggshell Trish, so that’s settled!

Ooh I was grumpy last night. I had a one-thing-after-another sort of day meaning I didn’t get to finish Record of a Spaceborn Few. Plus I thought Becky Chambers could do no wrong but I’m finding this one kind of boring.

message 108: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Ahoy Matey's. I finished The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien last night but was sleepy & dropped anchor. I'm up & will be moving out soon. I put that book under schooners a short book. 233 pages. If it works better elsewhere feel free to move it. I will start Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby much later today. Smooth sailing everyone & good work.

message 109: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I've not had a very productive few days on the reading front but I am finished work for the week and hope to find an hour or two to read outside!

I would say it's more blue, but since it can be argued both ways you could probably sue it for either a blue or green colour depending on which one we needed to complete a ship!

message 111: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments @Trish, my first thought was blue, but now that I look at it again it’s turning light green 😂 I see your struggles. So I agree it works for both!

message 112: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Good morning all!

@Trish, Tin-eye says it is 76% blue so my vote would be to put it towards the schooner.

So I couldn't help myself and finished The House in the Cerulean Sea. I'm adding to to the sloop for water on the cover. I also have less than an hour left on my Mrs Pollifax audio and should finish at lunch which will work for the short book for the sloop.

After this, I have another short audio I can do but I need to tackle my big book that I put off and was due to the library yesterday... At least it will count for pages.

message 113: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (pebbles320) I've finished Stay with Me and have put it down as "book written in 1st person" towards our second sloop.

message 114: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Do we want to aim for another big ship over the weekend or would you rather just read freely and see how we go?

I will finish my long book tomorrow but I can fit it in various places if we don't feel like doing another galleon.

message 115: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Finished Mrs Pollifax and put it as a short book for the sloop.

I'm fine either way on planning for the weekend. It's a US holiday on Monday so I'm not sure how that may affect people's plans.

message 116: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I hope to finish both I have in progress before the event is over, and am relatively close on both. They fit quite a few prompts on all of the ships, so I am fine with either as well. We finally got some nice summer days here, and the afternoon has been very relaxed in the sun with my book after an intense work week, nice way to start the weekend 😊

message 117: by Joyce (new)

Joyce | 614 comments I think I have barnacles in my laptop as it won’t connect to the internet tonight and I can’t work the spreadsheet from here. Can someone please enter me for 155 pages for Thursday and finish our second schooner with Record of a Spaceborn Few which is mostly blue.

I’m up for trying for another Galleon though I have a busy weekend to come. I’ll read Jam next which fits lots of ships including a Galleon as it’s “slow paced” (it’s literally set in a traffic jam) and “ensemble cast”.

message 118: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (pebbles320) If we want to go for another galleon, we might need to move Jen's book The Elusive Mrs. Pollifax to cover book with a thief, as there's nothing else on the planning tab for that prompt. Unless anyone else has a book with a thief in that they can finish by Sunday?
It's currently in sloops under short book.

Definitely feel free to move!

message 121: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments I’m reading Wasteland Blacktop. They steal things in the book.

message 122: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments Ended up having a rough evening so I didn't get to read anywhere near as much as I expected. Only 94 pages of Dear Haiti, Love Alaine tonight, but hopefully I can finish it tomorrow and maybe even move on to something else.

message 123: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I've moved Mrs Pollifax since a short book will be easier to fill. I have about 100 pages left of The Devil and the Dark Water for long book and then I'll go raid my novella collection!

I can always move things around again tomorrow evening to maximise our ships. We have a holiday weekend in the UK too.

Mornin' me hearties

I had a bit of a rubbish reading day yesterday - only 113pg. But I'll keep cracking on with The Mortal Word when I can today.

message 125: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Morning hearties!

I finished Perla and put it down under Galleons for 'A book whose author's initials appear in PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN'. As always, please feel free to move it if needed :)

I also placed Rachels book (My Lovely Wife for 'weapon on cover' under Galleons. That leaves us with 5 open prompts for a new Galleon.

Happy sailing today!

message 126: by Aimee (new)

Aimee (pebbles320) My in-progress book doesn't match any of the galleon prompts we have left, so I'm gonna use it as a standalone book and see if we can finish another sloop too.
I've also got a couple of short audiobooks for the under 300 or Zheng Yi Sao prompts so we should be able to make it.

message 127: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments I finished my audio, Sølvveien - and I think it doesn't fit any galleon prompts either. Unless two points of view counts for "an ensemble cast"? Then we can use it there.

For now I put it under Sloops for 'A book whose first letter of the title appears in ZHENG YI SAO'.

message 128: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Yo. I got my last read The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien caught up everywhere. I'm currently reading Blacktop Wasteland by S.A. Cosby. I will definitely finish probably tomorrow. I put the book on the spreadsheet under plans. It definitely has a thief in it. I will set off now. Hopefully the winds will be in my favor.

message 129: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I finished The Devil and the Dark Water, it certainly felt like a long book! I didn't think it was as good as The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle.

message 130: by Joyce (new)

Joyce | 614 comments The port is in sight!

I finished Jamand added it as a slow-moving book for the galleon. I'm finishing with Folk Tales which must have some fantastical creatures as well as a gold cover. May be rather late reading tomorrow though.

message 131: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Ahoy mateys! I finished Whereabouts which fits for short book and finishes off our second sloop,

I started Utopia Avenue yesterday and started strong but I've run out of steam a bit now. Will try to finish tomorrow but may be a stretch.

message 132: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments I finished Blacktop Wasteland by S.A.Cosby. I didn’t see anywhere to put it so I’m opened to suggestions.

message 133: by Rachel (last edited May 29, 2021 10:19PM) (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments Read another 262 pages today to finish off Dear Haiti, Love Alaine. I was thinking to put it down for "gold on the cover" because of the gold sunglasses, but is that too much of a stretch?

I'm hoping to finish off one more thing tomorrow, but it seems like a stretch. I might squeeze in Memento, especially now that it's actually on Goodreads and possible to track as part of my challenges.

I would say her earrings are gold hoops too so it's fine for gold on the cover.

message 135: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments I think the only remaining prompt for our second galleon is going to be ensemble cast which might be hard to find in a short book but I'll have a look for something I can reasonably finish in a day. Summer has finally decided to arrive here! So nice to be able to just sit outside without loads of layers on.

Morning all

I got another 348pg of The Mortal Word read yesterday, so I should get that finished this morning. It would count for fantastical creatures (dragons, Fae) for the galleon, but I'm not sure I can stretch it into an ensemble cast.

Update: I finished the last 31pg of The Mortal Word this morning. For now, I've put it in for fantastical creature, but it could move elsewhere - there are at least two brigantine prompts it would fit (medium length, adventure) and two possibles (friendship, and maybe green cover - I can't decide if its green or blue)
The Mortal Word (The Invisible Library #5) by Genevieve Cogman

I'm going to try and read The Mugger by the end of the day (its only 160pg), as I seem to remember that the 87th Precinct novels are ensemble.

Joyce | 614 comments Ellie wrote: "I think the only remaining prompt for our second galleon is going to be ensemble cast which might be hard to find in a short book but I'll have a look for something I can reasonably finish in a day..."

Jam could move to ensemble cast if someone else has a slow-moving book.

message 138: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments Yo Matey's. I haven't put Blacktop Wasteland by S.A.Cosby anywhere yet. It doesn't work for the galleon. We may be at the point where we can't use it. I will start Ordinary Girls by Jaquira Diaz later this morning. I won't finish it before I drop anchor tonight. I guess everything I read from this point will be for pages read.

Trish (trishhartuk) | 1238 comments Mod
Joyce, I think I have ensemble covered - I remembered right with 87th Precinct. So you can leave Jam where it is.

message 140: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments My current book Utopia Avenue also works for ensemble cast. I should finish today but it may be late so feel free if someone wants to/ is able to finish earlier

We've done an excellent job with this read-a-thon.

We have, indeed!

I've managed to finish The Mugger by the end of the day (its only 160pg), and I've filed it under "ensemble" - which means that whoever is reading the "gold on the cover" book is going to finish our galleon! Woohoo.

message 142: by Joyce (new)

Joyce | 614 comments I've struck gold me hearties! There's plenty of it on the cover of Czech Folk Tales Czech Folk Tales by Karel Jaromír Erben . Galleon ahoy!

message 143: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Awesome!!!

message 144: by Ellie (new)

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 2992 comments Great work! Have been distracted today so while I found a short ensemble cast book, I haven't read much of it 🤣

You are all a top crew of pirates. Orlando Bloom would be proud.

Great work team. I've added a last bit of rowboat, having read The Prince for 154pg, but there's probably not much point trying to start a new ship at this point.

message 146: by Hilde (new)

Hilde (hilded) | 821 comments Yay, excellent pirating everyone! As always, great fun 🤩

message 147: by Sherri (new)

Sherri Harris | 1502 comments You all are the best pirate crew. I have a few pages I read today I will add before bed. I have really enjoy the pirate theme, games, & challenges.

message 148: by Rachel (new)

Rachel A. (abyssallibrarian) | 3281 comments I've already finished Memento today (84 pages) and I'm currently listening to Convenience Store Woman, which is a 3.5 hour audiobook. I currently have 1 hour remaining so I'll definitely be finishing it off today, before dinnertime even!

I'm also planning to start You Should See Me in a Crown tonight, but I doubt I'll be able to finish that too.

I've just added my last two books to the sloop page so we only need two more books there - do you want to add The Prince as a short book on the off-chance someone completes a book featuring water on the cover?

message 150: by Jen K (new)

Jen K | 572 comments Finished my last book for the weekend. It's been fun! I'm going to miss reading all the pirate talk!
