I just finished Truel1f3, with enough time to spare to start something new tonight! I'm trying to decide if I want to read My Lovely Wife next or go for something a bit lighter, like one of the many YA books on my list. Also, I don't remember seeing this, but maybe I missed them - is there a rule about books needing to be 100+ pages to count? I'd like to read Memento this week but it's only 84 pages.
Avast Rachel! It’s 100 pages to count for a prompt or 200 pages for a graphic novel or poetry. A shorter book still counts towards another rowboat to pootle in though.
Emily wrote: "(I've updated your fleet, but make sure you add that to the spreadsheet under the Sloop prompts!)"Sorry Emily, I don't understand what you mean by that.
The prompt in the Sloops tab were updated before your comment (I remember seeing it yesterday before I went to bed, and marking it out green), so I just wondered if there is something we are missing?
Ellie wrote: "Well done crew! We can now outrun the authorities in our shiny new sloop."Haha, so that is what a Sloop is. I don't have the English terminology in for all these "ships" that we are gathering, my knowledge is rather limited to the most obvious ones, such as wellboats, cruise ships etc. In Norwegian we call that a sloop a "Gummibåt", directly translated that will be a "Rubber boat".
Haha no I think a sloop has a sail and is a proper boat. We'd call the dinosaur's boat a rubber dinghy. The Devil and the Dark Water has a map of their ship in the front and it has mizzenmast and everything marked on it, made me chuckle that I've selected such an appropriately themed book. I think they're in a galleon or whatever the Dutch version of that would be.
Lol, well that misunderstanding made it even funnier. I had to (finally) google a sloop, and I see that it is actually a nice sailboat! Haha

I'm a native English speaker and I don't know what all of the terms mean either, don't worry!
Ha ha! I love that dinosaur and am perfectly happy for that to be our sloop! Also a native English speaker who has no idea on the ship terms. I'm from a landlocked state. :)

Under the Sloops tab (not the planning tab), you are still missing the standalone book to complete the ship. That's the only place I am looking to update your fleet!

Mast A standalone book Tenth of December
I've bedecked the galleon with gold by finishing The Year of Magical Thinking unless the cap'ns prefer a foresail on the schooner. I'm now off for The Two-Bear Mambo even if it ought to be the hornpipe.
Avast me hearties!I've completed The Midnight Library and put it down as "A book whose author's initials appear in YO HO HO AND A BOTTLE OF RUM" under brigantine. It fits a few other prompts but that one wasn't taken yet so seemed like a good one, but I can always move it if necessary.
Joyce wrote: "Avast Rachel! It’s 100 pages to count for a prompt or 200 pages for a graphic novel or poetry. A shorter book still counts towards another rowboat to pootle in though."
Oh good, at least it will count for something! Maybe I'll squeeze it in before the end of the week.
Quick question. Is anyone beside me reading We begin at the End? I known I put the book on the plan spreadsheet but only the letter A is there instead of my name. I hated to assume that was my column.
Morning.
201pg yesterday, and well into Stiff: The Curious Lives of Human Cadavers, and I've finished the remaining 103pg this morning, so I've added that to the Schooner.
Next up, The Unexpected Guest, Agatha Christie/Charles Osbourne -

Afternoon! We have quite a fleet of rowboats now, our arms must be massive from rowing all that loot around.
Morning/ Afternoon mateys! So much rowing! I should be able to finish my physical book (only 10 pages left) and audio today. I'm thinking to put How Much of These Hills Is Gold under fast paced for me to finish off the schooner and The Journey of Crazy Horse: A Lakota History for adventure unless some else gets there first. We are so close on so many of the boats!
So, it turned out that The Unexpected Guest was a nice, quick read, and given that it was a novelisation of a play, and therefore with a story designed to be completed in a couple of hours, it was pretty fast paced. Which was the last prompt for our first schooner.
So, now we have two ships to row between!
I'm not sure I'll get much else read today, but tomorrow I'll start on one of:
The Warrior's Apprentice
The Mortal Word or
Cat's Cradle
The Mortal Word would cover Adventure for Brigantines or Fantastical Creature for Galleons. The other planning bits are in the spreadsheet.

Well done crew. I finished We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker. I don't know where to use it. It doesn't work on the ships we are building. I also read The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman. This will only count for pages read. I'm open for suggestions on We Begin at the End. I will set sail soon. I will finish up in port, round up the crew & shove off.
Great work crew!Sherri, feel free to start a new ship since we don't have many remaining prompts. We could probably manage a second sloop or schooner.
Awesome work everyone! I finished How Much of These Hills Is Gold. So I'm thinking fantastical as there is a much discussed myth like tiger with sightings and rumors throughout the book with the fantastical part being that there aren't tigers in the hills of California. Too much of a stretch?
Just finished The Assassins of Thasalon and have put it down as an adventure book, so we're only one book away from a brigantine now!
I finished The Two-Bear Mambo: Hap and Leonard Book Three and entered it towards our second schooner as it's part of a series. We're one book away from a galleon too and I've started Record of a Spaceborn Few by Becky Chambers which could give us the beakhead.
Finished The Journey of Crazy Horse: A Lakota History. I'm using it for Davy Jones' locker unless anyone is upset by ignoring the "The". Unfortunately I don't have a green book to finish off the brigantine but we are making good progress on a second schooner.
118 more pages of My Lovely Wife, should be finishing it off tomorrow. I wish I had one more hour before I had to go to bed tonight. If I did, I'd probably be able to finish. It's so good!
Morning
I'll swap out one of my short-term reads, in favour of The Dance of the Seagull, by Andrea Camilleri, to finish the Beakhead of our fine galleon, and if someone completes the galleon first, then there are other places it can fit.

I'm regretting picking up a long book now. Work has been busy this week but think it's quietening down for a few days so can sneak in some audio time. Are we good for a green book? I can try and find something short and green if not.
I have nothing green except
which I don’t think I want to read quickly. I can swap Record of a Spaceborn Few to the “mostly blue” prompt though and let Trish finish fettling the galleon.
I've just started Stay with Me which is kind of yellowy-green, I think it would count?
If not I can put it down as a short book for our second schooner.

"Looks green enough to me.

Good Morning fellow pirates. I will try to cover 199 nautical miles today. That is how many pages I have left on my current read. If I can't finish today will definitely do it tomorrow. Friday will be a slow reading day because I will be gone from the ship for most of the day.
Avast, me hearties.
I've finished The Dance of the Seagull for 289 nautical miles and a Galleon beakhead!
Sorry, it was 277, not 289!
I'll go ahead with my green cover - if someone else beats me to it, that's fine, and we have a spare. If not, then hopefully we should add a Brigantine by the end of the day.

That's fine with me, there are lots of places I can use my book and I won't be able to finish it today anyway.
Well done on finishing off the galleon!

Would love to sail away in that robber boat with all of you fellow hearties, the dinosaur and of course Mr Orlando himself ;)
Great work everyone! Sorry for not checking in yesterday, work has eaten up the last couple of days, hopefully a little slower tomorrow.
@Sherri, gotta say your updates are a treat to read, so funny with all those ship terms :)
