Kelsey Morgan | 14 comments Hey y’all. So, this is kind of a weird one. I’m looking for books that have a similar feel to the cartoon “The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy.” Specifically books that have either a lot of mythological creatures and settings and/or a dark sense of humor. I’m an adult, for reference, but I don’t particularly care what audience the book is aimed at. Perks if the book is about the afterlife/Death himself.

Aerulan | 1316 comments Ok I've not seen that cartoon, so this is more of a shot in the dark but...
Something from the Nightside by Simon R. Green
And maybe Jim Butcher's Dresden Files Storm Front or some of Richard Kadrey's books like Sandman Slim orButcher Bird

If you haven't read them the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett has several with Death as a main/central character that could appeal though I wouldn't say they're dark humor.

I'm gonna think about this and see if anything else jumps out at me.

Gillian | 342 comments I second Aerulan's suggestions of the Harry Dresden series (first book is Storm Front) and the Sandman Slim series (Sandman Slim).

There's also Meddling Kids by Edgar Cantero.

Lynn (lynnbar) | 126 comments Mort is the first book that has Death as the main character in Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. My personal favourite though, and the first one that I read, was Equal Rites.

Another Fine Myth by Robert Lynn Aspirin: comical fantasy with creatures.

Piers Anthony wrote a series of books full of magical creatures in a land called Xanth. Full of puns and possibly slightly adult and/or inappropriate in places.

Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman: a comic fantasy involving angels and demons, recently made into a tv series.

Possibly, you may also enjoy The Tough Guide to Fantasy Land by Diana Wynne Jones.

Barbara, please create a separate thread for your request in the "Suggest books for me" folder. This will avoid confusion.

Anya Books by rick riordan are definitely aimed at kids, but they are chock full of mythology. The house of hades takes place in the underworld, but I don't think it's exactly what you are looking for

Lynn (lynnbar) | 126 comments I've recently discovered A Dirty Job by Christopher Moore. Its about a bloke who is selected to become the Grim Reaper. I haven't read it yet so am not sure if it will live up to the good reviews or not. Great cover though.

A Dirty Job (Grim Reaper, #1) by Christopher Moore

Christopher Moore has written several books with the intent to make people laugh.
