Ad.costas The title is actually the topic question.
Anyone heard any news... I NEED the next book... Seriously...

Laura Herzlos Sadly, not even close... Hang in there! :-)

Thomas Definetely not in 2015 :(

Juanita If you consider that between A feast for crows and Dance with Dragons there was a 6 year interval and that A Dance with Dragons was released in 2011, I would say we still have a 3 year wait.

Ad.costas I guess I 'm gonna read the 5 first books again. After following endless discussions and theories about who is whose son and so on, maybe I 'll have a different point of view.

Laura Herzlos I will start re-reading too. I already did a couple of chapters. It's amazing how your perception of certain things change on a second read! Also, the feelings... Ned telling Bran that one day Robb would be the Lord of Winterfell and Bran and Rickon would be his bannermen, oh why don't you twist that knife deeper into my guts? :-D

Katherina I'll start rereading next year - or once I'll know for sure that the next book is coming.
The narrative is so rich and full of details, I fear I'll forget something important without a proper reread.

Willow Bledsoe Best case scenario that I've heard is /maybe/ within the next couple years. I think I've got my hopes up waaay too high for this year.

Matthew Williams This is funny in its own right, but pay special attention to the end where they make a mention of George RR Martin:

Anna I was really hoping it would come out this year, specially now that season 5 of GOT will catch up with the books. Oh well. Hopefully next year and by then I will definitely need to reread.

Brooklyn Ann I highly advise rereading more than once. Not only to bide the time, but because there are so many details and subplots that one misses the first time around. Also, I actually enjoyed books 4 and 5 a lot more on the reread after being so disappointed the first time around.

Ad.costas After reading a couple of hundred pages of GOT I feel re reading is going to be better than the first time. I started reading the first book after I had seen the first season of the TV show and actually had no idea how far ahead the books were or when the next books were expected. So I kind of rushed through them. I only bothered to check when the new book is coming out when I had almost read the fifth book. This time I have all the time in the world it seems.

Thomas Yes.. But quality > speed

Brooklyn Ann My reread of ADWD was the best. The first time I read it I was in the Emergency room all doped up on morphine, so I missed some interesting stuff, like Frey Pies, Dany's miscarriage, and all sorts of other interesting things.

Winds of winter will be the next book, but the editor said not to expect it in 2015

Shawn Meh. The first three were fun to reread the second time.. and decent the third time.. I couldn't do a fourth. I reread book 4 once, and it did not get any better. Book 5 I reread once as well.. and it just made me hate it even more. I grew even more disappointed with having waited so long for it.

I think it comes down to something really simple. You are either a person that enjoys watching soap operas, or you aren't. (no judgement either way!) Because that is all book 4 and 5 devolve into. And you either enjoy them or you don't.. And the waiting just makes them even more frustrating.

Anyways.. yeah the book won't be out in 2015.. and I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for it in 2016. He can only write at home. He can't write while traveling, not on a plane, not on a train, not even in his hotel room. So don't worry.. if you are asking when the next book is coming, and you most likely found the books because of the show.. you will get your ending far before the last book comes out. lol.

Ad.costas I can detect some bitterness in your comment. You are not pleased with the last 2 books. I will agree that they are slow and lack action, still I really enjoyed reading them.
I ‘m not in a hurry to see the ending of the story, just to read the next book, which will probably be the best of the series. What seemed a soap opera to you, seemed to me like Martin preparing and building up the story for this book. A lot is about to happen. “We must not be hasty” as Treebeard would say.

Shawn lol. and I detect some unrealistic optimism in you, young padawan.

People said the same shit about aDwD before it came out.. and the same for book 4. We all keep hoping. At some point.. that hope begins to get tarnished by reality.

I hope the next book is good. But I am not holding my breath for it.

Treebeard isn't the best person to quote.. seeing as his lifespan is so insanely different.. especially compared to the unhealthy aging bulk that is Martin -- who let me remind you has no plans to have anyone else finish his series if he dies. (which.. is why in most series with long life beings, there is such a contrast between humans and them.. because humans have to rush because their lives are so short.)

Ad.costas Don't get me started on Star Wars... I HOPE the movie they're preparing is decent, but when I took a look at the information there is online... If you're having trouble dealing with ASOIAF I'd like to hear what you'll have to say when that movie comes out.

Shawn lol. I doubt I will even watch it. Lost all faith after 1-3. And with the way they are basically ignoring all the fiction that was written.. it just is very doubtful that it will be worth watching beyond to get a thrill from hearing the familiar opening credits.. The trailer was beyond stupid.. with that dumb crossbeam lightsaber crap. but blah. anyways. WAY off topic ;)

And I have no trouble dealing with Martin being the most distracted and slowest writer in the world. He is just fun to complain about on forums ;)

Ad.costas No matter. New book is going to ROCK. May the force be with you.

Piotrek The new book will come out when hell freezes over. Seriously, leave the poor guy alone. There are literally thousands of great fantasy books that you can delve into in the meantime.

Ad.costas No I don't wanna...
I want to read WOW.

Sherri Moorer I heard he plans to finish writing it this year, so probably another 1-2 years before it's ready for publication. :(

Solemn When the sun rises in the west and sets in the east, when the seas go dry and mountains blow in the wind like leaves, when your womb quickens again, and you bear a living child. Then the book will come out, and not before.

My womb never quickened in the first place cause I don't have one. I like your optimism though.

Paul Martin's books remind me of a family trip.

MOM (Publisher): The next book is coming kids.
KIDS (readers): Is it here yet?
DAD (Martin): IT'LL GET HERE WHEN IT GETS HERE!

Ted My prediction is October 2016. Or 2017...
