I remember flipping through this book anywhere from 2016-2018 (?), it was about a group of close friends, all boys- after one of them dies (I don't really remember if it was a purposeful murder or an accidental death), the others promise each other that they will never reveal which of them did it. I think it was more adult fiction than ya, even though I think the boys were teenagers.

I also remember that the book weren't from any of the boys' perspectives, it was third person but based more on the reactions and thoughts of the townspeople and police as they tried to find out who did it, and readers only got as much information as the police did- so they didn't know who was the boy who did it, or what happened that day until the detectives and police did.Also I remember that I flipped through this book in the book section at costco- if that helps.

I ended up finding the book, it's "This Is Our Story"by Ashley Elston !
