SOLVED: Children's/YA > SOLVED. YA WW2, maybe a short series, characters name maybe in the title. Main character is a young woman and follows her life through the 1940s, Glasgow & London. I read in the 00s. [s]

Hannah | 4 comments SOLVED! - Starts in the countryside, then she moves with her Dad and little sister to Clydebank Glasgow where he is working as a ship builder, bombed during WW2. She moves to London and befriends a (Italian?) family and drives an ambulance during the bombing. Her little sister is accidentally evacuated to Canada and the main character goes to bring her back. She gets to know a doctor and is maybe working at hospital or respite house, and realises one of the young men is someone she loved right at the beginning of the book.
I think her name was maybe in the title or that of the mini series, I feel it's something like 'Kessie' or 'Cassie'.

Hannah | 4 comments It is that sort of style, so good idea but unfortunately not. You have got me reading Goodnight Mister Tom again though so thanks!

Was it definitely a series? How many books do you think there were? Did it seem new at the time or older?

Hannah | 4 comments It might have just been 2 books, but felt like a lot happened! Not sure about age.. it could have been a few decades older but just a guess!

Hannah | 4 comments Solved!

There are two books 'Kezzie' and 'Kezzie Homecoming', however it is also combined into one book called 'Kezzie at War', which I discovered when I ordered all three and realised the third book was just the two books in one!
I was slightly wrong, she doesn't move to London, the ambulance driving is still in Glasgow, but she does move to the countryside in England for a bit where she works with the doctor.
The author is Theresa Breslin. I solved it when I eventually remembered to ask my Mum and she knew!
Thanks for the help though Rainbowheart.

They are really nice books and has some interesting themes on the war and poverty. Would recommend!
