re option 1: this seems like you are expecting the book to be new, not a reread? is this right, or could I use a Discworld book (having read all of them at least once)? ;-P
Cat wrote: "re option 1: this seems like you are expecting the book to be new, not a reread? is this right, or could I use a Discworld book (having read all of them at least once)? ;-P"i was thinking a new to you book Cat but if you have read the discworlds more than once they would fit in option 3
For Option 1, if I read the first book in the series and gave it 5 stars, but then read the second book and gave it 2 stars, I can still read the third book in the series, right? I don't have to have given the most recent book I read in the series 4 or 5 stars?
Insiyah wrote: "It's not an issue if the book for Option 1 is to be released in June/July, right?"you can use ARC's of books yet to be released so that will be fine

For option 2, if I've rated most of an author's books at 4 or 5 stars, is it a problem is on or two (out of 20+) are only 2 or 3 stars?

Thank you!
So for Option 2 I only need to have given 1 of the authors previous books 4/5 stars? the second I read can be any rating?I'm thinking of reading Josh Malerman's new book. I've given 1 of his previous books 5 stars, and several others 2 or 3 stars.

For the series book option 1 you only need to have read one book that you rated 4 or 5 stars - The task reads book(s) so that could be one or more
For option 2 you must have read the author TWICE before and rated their books (plural) as four or five stars so in that case both books read before would need to have been rated 4 or 5 stars
Does this make sense Tracey?
I am using option 3 re-reads myself because I need a fix of old faithfuls

I realise I have given what seems to be conflicting information see message to Tracey above for a favourite Author you need to have given MORE THAN ONE of their books a 4 or 5 star rating. If you have read lots of their books and one just didn't work for you that is fine but you cannot claim a favourite author on only 1 highly rated book
I hope this clears it up
Ok. That's what I thought originally but then I got confused with the other posts. Thanks for clearing it up!
For Option 2: If I have rated at least two books by a single author 4 or 5 stars, but their newest book has a co-author can I still use it?Rated In Fury Born and On Basilisk Station by David Weber
Want to read Governor by David Weber and Richard Fox

No all tasks relating to authors are single author only unless otherwise stated in the task (general SRC rules)
For option 2 - if an author writes under a pseudonym can I read a book using that name if I rated books under their other name as 4/5 stars? (Ie Jamie Farrell now writes as Pippa Grant) - I’ve read/rated several of her Jamie books but none of her pippa ones
I am going to say no to this as many authors who use pseudonyms write very different styles under those different names. The idea of the task is to read what you know you like
Re the series books, Option 1I don't always read "in order" I've read several books in a particular series that has over 20 titles, and given 4* or higher) to at least one of them. Can I read any other new-to-me book in the series? Or must it be a book that comes AFTER the book I gave 4* to (by after, I mean series order)?
Made up example:
Book 1 - rated 3 * - read 3-1-19
Book 8 - rated 4* - read 7-8- 19
Book 4 - rated 2* - read 4 -2 20
Must I read a book # 9 or higher? (Book # 8 was the 4* read)
Or can I read book # 2 in the series?
Hope that made sense...
As the wording of the task says Next new to you book i think it would have to be number 9 in the series
Just to clarify - for option two, do I have to have read two or more different books by the author before, or can I have just read one book of theirs multiple times?

In the 1980’s I had 3 small children, I worked nights and coordinated with friends to care for each others children I spent a lot of time walking to nursery or the school bus. (my small children travelled 5 miles to school) . I could only find time to read the books I really wanted to . My task is based on what you really want to read.
This is a 2 book task
You may use the same OR different options BUT your books MUST be by different authors (this includes authors who write under different names) so for instance you cannot read books by J.D. Robb AND Nora Roberts OR by J.K. Rowling AND Robert Galbraith
You may use books with the genre Children’s or the genre Manga /Comic books for one option.
State the options.
Option 1
Read the next new-to-you book in a series that you have previously rated 4 or 5 stars
Required: You MUST state that the book is new-to-you, that you have read an earlier book(s) in the series BEFORE 15/05/2021, and that you rated that book at least 4 stars.
Option 2
Read a NEW to you book by a favourite author - for this challenge a favourite author is one you have read at least TWICE before and RATED 4 or 5 stars
Required: State that you have read the author at least twice before, that you rated more than one of their books 4 or 5 stars, and this this book is NEW-to-you.
Option 3
Read a much loved book that you have read AT LEAST TWICE before. This book should be MORE than 10 years old (First published before June 2011)
Required: State that you have read this book at least TWICE before.
Happy reading
