Stephanie I am behind in all podcasts because of work and the flu going around our high school, so I just listened to this one on the treadmill this afternoon and had to laugh. I happen to be one of those people who likes to talk to random people in bookstores, particularly the ones who look confused, or, my particular favorites, the ones quizzically holding a book I have read and loved. I practically pounce on them. I am a lurker. I'll admit it. I have assisted people in many sections of the bookstore, and I will snobbishly say that I probably read more than most people who work in bookstores.

I would LOVE it if someone like me approached me in a store. I have yet to meet anyone in person that has my insatiable desire to read. I would probably try to buy them coffee and make them my new best friend. Sad, but true.

You sound like my kind of book person, Stephanie. I'll be your best friend! I would love to know what you think of The Thirteenth Tale.

I was at a fast food place for a quick bite between work and my book group meeting a couple of weeks ago and the cashier who took my order noticed the book I had in my hand - Oliver Twist - and commented on how it was one of her favorite books. I loved that.

Melissa Railey | 291 comments I tend to talk to random people in bookstores also. I can't help myself. The conversations spring to life and before I know I'm recommending a whole library full of books for somebody to read based on one little book that they had in their hand wavering on whether or not to read it. Poor helpless people - they have no idea how to react when they come into contact with me at the store.

ooh, I do that too. I'm constantly putting library books in their proper place while my daughter picks books out. It irks me.
