Realistic fic (don't remember age group) black and white men

I wanna say I read this 2016-2020. Very sorry this is the most vague and previously used description ever, and my memory is so fogged that it might just not even be in a book. Anyways, there's a white guy and a black guy. The black guy sues the white guy (or the other way around) because of something about cars. The black guy doesn't have enough money to afford a lawyer, and he loses the case (even though he should've won). The white guy's lawyer (or maybe just the white guy himself) meets the black guy in a store, and gives back the money. I think that the judge had kidney stones, and again, sorry for the vague description. Oh! I remember more, but I could be mashing books together... There's a guy who plays football, and a dead dog (or a dog that causes someone to nearly die). The dog's name is Otis I'm pretty sure, that is, if there is a dog at all.
