In the end, not everyone got what they wanted. These people’s wants were most important in the end though. They give themselves to others to get through life, even if it means life or death for them.
The main characters in this story are Sara, Una, and Nate. This all starts with Nate, who so desperately wanted a girl free life. He was sick of them fawning over his good looks and hated them from their hideously styled hair to their million dollar shoes. That is, until he met Sara.

Ugh, I swear, if Natalie looks at me funny one more time, I will slap her into Barbie Land (it’s where she belongs anyways). Her and her Barbie doll group of “friends” with makeup on every single inch of their faces.

Oh, drat, there she is with all her gossipy friends.
Every single girl that is her so-called “friend” is really a selfish wannabe that is in love with me. Why can't they go love another boy for a change?!?
Also, people seem to think that Natalie is my future wife. Every time me and Natalie pass each other in the halls everybody turns and whispers about where our “wedding” will be or how much we are destined for each other.
“Hey, baby.” Natalie walks over to me, batting her fake eyelashes in what was probably supposed to be a seductive way. To me, it resembled a motion sick hippo.
“I’m not your baby.” I mumble.
“Hmph.” she crosses her arms angrily and storms off.
I go over to my locker and grab my chemistry book. The petri dish on the cover seems especially menacing to me today.
“Hey, dude, that was an awesome save from Hippo-lie.” my best bud, Grant, said.

“Thanks bud.” and we share an epic fist bump before I yelp and look at the clock in alarm.
“Chemistry starts in five!” Is my yell, and I rush off.
Chemistry is as boring as always, with Mr. McErnie’s droning boring the entire class to sleep.
Oh, except for Paul. Paul was this smart kid from Germany. He loved everything math or chemistry, and he actually survived not sleeping through Mr. McErnie’s boring classes.
Did you get bad grades? You’re probably asking. No, I didn’t listen in chemistry class, but I studied chemistry on whatever subject we learned afterwards. It might come in handy one day. Also, a little extra knowledge never hurt anyone.
“Remember, a paragraph on exothermic reactions finished by Friday!” makes everyone but me and Paul groan in disappointment. In chemistry class Mr. McErnie calls out what to remember. Some people like Paul write it down, but I just remember.
I liked doing it. Science is cool in my book. I had knowledge. It's not like I was all ‘I love school it's so cool’, but It was fine to do projects and it's really not that hard.
Now you’re probably thinking Paul is a big fat NERD but it's not true. Being smart and getting A’s is cool at my school as long as you don't spend every second on it and reading textbooks at lunch you’re good, and even if you’re like that, which Paul is, you’re probably not gonna get bullied that often.
“Nate!” I hear Mr. McErnie calling me.
I stay behind until there’s just me and him and the rest of the class has come out of the classroom.
“Yes.” I say.
“There’s this new kid coming on Thursday. She's going to be in this class. Can you help her get used to the new surroundings?”
Now, I wasn't a teacher’s pet, but I couldn't say no! And I kinda wanted to see if the girl was gonna join Natalie’s Fool Club or become one of the weirdos.
Oh, (if you were a girl) when you got to school on the first day of school, you had two choices:
One join Natalie’s stupid group, or become a weirdo.
That meant all the girls would avoid you, you would get the worst table at lunch, and Natalie would bribe Harold to bully you.
I do not want to be a girl in that situation, I think when the bell for English rings.

I sit at my usual table with Gary, and today Bethany is campaigning around for people who want to paint stage backdrops for the school play and urrg she is sitting with Gary and chatting with him.
“‘Sup.” I say, sitting down. I feel a bit awkward. Bethany seems to have verbal diarrhea today, but who am I kidding, Bethany has it every day!
“Hi. It’s so nice to meet you, I was just talking to Gary and he’s actually really nice and I wasn’t expecting that.”
She says without even asking who I am.
“I’m Bethany.”
“I know who you are.” I grumble. Of course I know who she is! She is the teacher's pet director of the school newspaper, drama club and science club. She is also Paul's girlfriend.
“So.” Bethany said. “Would you like to help paint the backdrops for the play.”
“No thanks.” I say.
Bethany angrily storms off and goes over to the table diagonal from us like she does to all others who reject her,
“Look!” I called Gary. “Bethany is going over to Natalie’s table with all her friends.”
Bethany is a weirdo in our school. She says that Natalie’s group kicked her out in her first week here, so in order not to feel left out at lunch she goes campaigning around for something.
And when she’s not in the study group (which only has one founder and member; herself) and she is usually the only one in the study group but if she’s not Paul is. He is her boyfriend after all.
“Oh my gosh.” Gary says in surprise “She really is going over to them.”
“Hi I am Bethany and I was wondering if you would like to-”
Natalie stands up, rolls her eyes, and puts a finger to Bethany’s lips, then walks away.
We both know where she is going. To Harold. I see Natalie walking over to Harold and saying something to him. I can't hear what they’re saying because they’re all the way across the cafeteria but after Natalie stops speaking. She holds out a wad of cash and then puts it back in her purse. Harold stands up and yells.
“Bethany, get over here”
Bethany looked up, alert.
She was talking to one of Natalie’s devout followers, Molly. When she saw who called her, she suddenly turned pale.
“You will pay. Mark my words.” Harold said.
At this point the whole cafeteria was watching like it was their favorite Netflix show. Bethany walked over to Harold and this is where it turned a corner and I think everyone in the cafeteria would probably agree that this event might go down in history.
“Hi! I’m Bethany. My favorite color is forest green! I like mathematics the best! Natalie doesn’t like me much though. My favorite planet is Mercury, what’s yours?” Suddenly Harold jumped up and came down on Bethany knocking her to the ground.
Suddenly Paul ran over and started to say
“Hey! NO ONE TOUCHES MY GIRLFRIEND!!!”
But then the lunch monitor looked up from her phone which was shocking, no one has ever seen her do that.
“What on earth is happening here! Can I not go on Twitter without being interrupted!” she shouts angrily. “Now who was the person who started this mess, huh? The guilty party step forwards now!” she shrieks.
“It was her.” Natalie said pointing at Bethany. I saw that Gary and many others had whipped out their phones and started filming the drama so I did.
“Detention for a week young lady.”
The lunch monitor yelled.
“She broke her hip.”
Paul said.
“Well who cares?!?” The lunch monitor yelled. “She interrupted me going on Twitter!”
“We need to get her to the hospital or to a doctor.” Paul exclaimed.
I do something that puzzles me to this day. I speak up.
“It was her.” I point at Natalie, who stares at me in disbelief.
“All right then lunch is over.”
She said.
“You four stay behind.”
She said pointing at Paul, Bethany, Natalie, and Harold.
“As for the rest of you, get to your next class.”
There was so much gossip in the hallway that it was impossible to get to your next class without someone asking your opinion on the incident. Basically the next day was all incident gossip and I was sorta glad that the new girl was not here to see it. (hide spoiler)]

On Thursday I woke up and suddenly realized the new girl was coming....which meant I had to be at school at friggin’ 7:00. Yikes.
“Make your bed this instant!” my dad commands sternly.
With the slight fear of being grounded I quickly made my bed and headed into the bathroom where I brushed my teeth. Then I went to get dressed. I pulled on my clothes, grabbed a granola bar for breakfast, and ran out the door. As I approached the school I saw a girl waiting outside the school. She had wavy brunette hair that flowed down her back and crystal blue eyes. On her feet were black and white converse shoes. She was wearing black leggings and a gray and red vans sweatshirt,which, to my surprise I had on too!
She laughs lightly when she realizes our outfits match.
“Hi.” She said.
“Hey, I’m Nate.” I say. “Here’s your schedule,” I say, getting her schedule out of my backpack.
“Do we have all our classes together?” She asks. I get out my schedule. We hold our schedules next to each other.
“Naw, see here. We don’t have art together but wow!” I say. “We have almost every single class together.”
“I’m supposed to give you a tour of the school, and it’s 7:15. Homeroom starts at 7:45, so I should probably start showing you around.” I open the door to school and we walk in. I show her where the gym, library, cafeteria, and music room are.
“So,” she started. “Where's my locker?”
“Oh, um, your locker is 276.” I show her where that is. The girl nods in thanks and she puts her stuff in her locker. As she closes it I put my stuff in my locker and kids start pouring into the hall.
We go to homeroom and take our seats. The morning announcements go, as usual and then Mrs. Davids stands up and says.
“Class. We have a new student here today. Sara, can you please stand up?”
‘So that’s what her name is!’ I thought to myself. Sara stood up and then sat down again. “Alright class, you may now go to your first period class.”
Sara and I walked out of homeroom and went to our lockers. Sara and I had lockers next to each other and there was one locker between our lockers. Una pulled up in her wheelchair to her locker in between ours. Sam her helper got her English book out of her locker and wheeled Una into English.
“Who was that?” Sara asked.
“That’s Una.” She’s really nice.”
“Why was she in a wheelchair?” Sara asked.
“She is paralyzed from the waist down.” I told Sara. We get our social studies books and binders out of our lockers.
“Our social studies class is up one floor and to the right,” I say. “Sorry, I forgot to show you during the tour.”
“That’s fine,” Sara says as we go up the stairwell. When we walk into social studies I see a familiar image.
Ms. Mackers desk has an amazing number of history books on it. She also always brings a red apple to school every day, and Natalie always eats it.
Her and her “friends” are texting and there is no sign of Ms. Mackers.
“Why is there no teacher here?” Sarah asks, not in a rude way, but kind of curious.
“Ms. Mackers has some sleeping problems so she always gets to work at 8:00 o'clock. She always has to rush around the school making copies of homework, getting textbooks from the library, and whatnot, so she doesn't get here till 8:25.” I say.
Oh.” Sara said.
Suddenly I see Natalie coming over to us. ‘Yikes!’ I think briefly.
“Hi Sara, girlie! I'm Natalie and I see that you’re taking a day off from being fashionable. Since I wanna help a new girl out here's a piece of advice; never take a day off from being fashionable.” Her face turns dark then brightens up again. “When you are fashionable it’s kind of like practicing to get more fashionable. You know what they say; practice makes perfect.”
‘Um, the only girl around here who is not “fashionable” around here is you, Hippo-girl’ I think to myself.
Sara and I walk to our seats in silence then Sara speaks.
“Those girls just seem so nice and cool.” Sara says.
I don't want to be rude to Sara so I just say: “Yeah, I guess they’re fine.”
“Nate,” Sarah says softly. “I was being sarcastic.”
“Natalie is so annoying. She has like the biggest crush on me.” I say. I’m waiting for something but I don’t know exactly what.
“There were girls at my old school like that, and they had the biggest crush on a guy named Steven. He wasn’t even that handsome!”
“Think of those girls at your old school and then multiply that by ten- that’s Natalie.” I say, hoping to start some good conversation with her.
“Seems so!” Sara exclaimed.
Then Ms. Mackers walks into the room.
“Class, today we will be starting to write a six-paragraph essay about The American Revolution.” At this, the whole class groans. Welp.
“This essay will be a DBQ.”
Then Sara raised her hand. I looked at her outstretched hand.
“You’re the new student. Sara, isn’t it?” Sara nodded her head.
“Well what’s your question, Sara?”
“What’s a DBQ?” Sara asked curiously.
“A DBQ is a Document Based Question.” Ms. Mackers said. “Now, know that I understand you are a new student, so we will take this time to get to know you as a student and the essay is tomorrow.” Cheers went up in the air. Once the class calmed down Ms. Mackers said:
“Sara please come up to the white board and make a T chart with 3 sections.” Sara walked up to the board and made the chart.
“Now write the word Hobbies in the first heading of the chart.” Sara did as she was told. Her handwriting was thin and looped, and pleasant to look at. Ms. Mackers gave some more instructions and when Sara was done she had three sections; Hobbies, Books and/or TV shows and finally other things about yourself.
“Sara can you please fill in these categories with the things that apply to you in the category.”
Once Sara was done she came back to her seat and exclaimed quietly. “That seems like an odd thing for a teacher to do.”
“Well, it is.” I say. “Ms. Mackers is trying to be the head of the new student committee, so she is always doing odd stuff for our new students.”
“That's understandable. I guess.” Sara sighed.
I took another look at Sara’s chart.
“You like Basketball?” I said maybe sounding too surprised.

“Yeah I love it! My old team the Dragons won the National championships. Not to brag or anything.”

“You’re on the California Dragons!?” I screeched. She covered her ears.
“Yeah, have you heard about us?”
“They’re only the best high school basketball team in the country!” I exclaimed, surprised yet again. “You’re awesome, Sara.”
As I complimented her, I noted how her expression became redder. She looked really cute when she was emba-- wait, what am I thinking? I shouldn’t be thinking about Sara. She’s just the new kid. Nothing else. (hide spoiler)]

thanks! I wrote it with my friend who was a really good writer and also a reader. idk about now, but back then she wrote a lot more often than me, so she had more practice than me and way a bit better.
