Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments Hi,
I own a copy of a French edition of 'The Fellowship of the Ring'... The one with ISBN 2266115618. On its Goodreads page, it is said to have 540 pages but it actually has 696.
Could you please edit that?

Thank you a lot.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments Hi Moony

World Cat also has this book at 540 pages. This is quite a significant difference. Can you tell me what is on pages 541-696 of your copy? Some things we count & some things we don't.

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments Hi,
I really don't understand because I checked the ISBN & it is truly this edition that I have but page 540 is in the middle of a chapter (middle of chapter 4 from the second part of the book). 696 is where the story truly stops, then there are a few more pages of table of content & maps & such. But the story ends at 696......

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments We would also count table of contents, even if unnumbered. Could you tell me exactly what is after page 696 please.

Is the cover the same as the one shown?

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments Yes, it's the same cover, correct ISBN, correct bar code, correct translator, correct print date. I checked everything out of anxiety......

The story ends page 696, then there's the table of content on pages 697 and 698. Then comes a few maps of Middle Earth from page 699 to 703. And then one last page with info about the printing... :)

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments I just checked and there is the same problem with the second book for the same edition........ I'm really confused. Do you have any idea why they would all be wrongly listed everywhere? I'm anxious to make you waste your time & I'm sorry for the trouble.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments You aren't wasting my time. :)

One possibility that occurs to me is that the publisher hasn't only reused the ISBN, but has created an extended edition with extra material like the maps you have mentioned above.

I think we may have to create another edition, but I am getting off the computer now, but will come back later today.

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments I see! Thank you so much!
I did notice on my book that it's an unabridged version. Maybe that's where the difference comes from.
I'll let you tell me if I can be of any help to create the new edition.
Thank you a lot for your help and time.

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments Thanks Moony. :)

If you could confirm that your cover is the same as the one pictured that would be great.

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments Hi,

Yes, it's the exact same cover as pictured.

& while we're here, if you don't mind, I can say that there is also an unabridged version of the second book of the series (ISBN: 2266118013). Exact same problem: same ISBN, exact same cover. It is noted down as having 471 pages, but my edition has 568 (for the end of the story), then pages 569 and 570 are the tables of content, then 571 to 575 are maps, then one last page, 576, for the info about publishing.

I do not yet own the third book so I cannot say for that one.

Thank you again tremendously for your help & have a nice day!

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments Hi

I'm out of town today but will do when I get back. 😊

Carol She's So Novel꧁꧂ | 2321 comments Ok, I have created two new editions for you

If you would like to have covers on these editions, can you scan your covers & upload to the photos section of your profile. Librarians are not allowed to use covers from different editions, even if they look identical.

Can you tell me what year your editions were published?

Can you confirm that Pocket is the publisher.

If I have missed anything, let me know. :)

Moony (moonyki) | 11 comments Thank you so much!!

Both editions were published by Pocket. But I cannot say in which year they were exactly published, I searched the book over & over again but all I could find were that both had their legal submissions in 2002.

I'll take care of the covers :)
Thank you again for your help & have a great day.
