A YA sci-fi story, very Narnia-like in the beginning "call to action". Visitors pull kid from house to solve a dire galactic emergency. I remember a definite detail that at one point the kid and one of the alien cohort (a raccoon type creature) are stuck in a small world that is the interior of a cylinder. And they figure out that they are in a 2 and a half dimensional space. The title was Andromeda Rising or Constellation-something. And the the title contained the name of the spaceship.

I read it in 2011. but I think it's older. like late 80s but probably 90s.
