kiwi (kili) | 2 comments I read these books as a kid in the mid-2000s, maybe 2005-2006 and can't find them anyway though I'm positive they existed. They are not your average "books for kids" or even "Christian" books so I'm not sure if they are actually considered "Christian" published literature or not even though they use Bible stories. There were several books in the series but I owned three paperback copies: one went over the story of David from David and Goliath and the cover was green. The Noah's Arc cover was red and the Esther one was purple I believe.

In the first book, it is framed like two men finding a story children appear to have written down and wondering if it could be true. In the main narrative, then, a brother and sister (the sister is named Anna, I can't remember the boy's name) are playing around in an abandoned house in the woods. The boy falls and gets hurt. When he wakes up he is in the alternate reality living through the Biblical story of David after he kills Goliath. The boy saves "David's" life and is invited to join him.

His sister also ends up there, though she appears in the king's study. She is found, and they think she is a slave and try to sell her. I think on the back of the book there is actually a quote that's like "She was found in the king's study...Sell her as a slave!"

They live through the entire story of David up until just before David would have been crowned king and then return to their own world again.

The whole story is kind of like in a fantasy world, though, it's not exactly time-travel.

The second book has a different main character, a boy, who is transported to the story of Noah's Arc, except instead of a flood, it is the threat of some kind of bomb going off.

And the third one has yet another different main character, a girl who goes back to the story of Esther and works as a kind of maid servant for her. She ends up coming back home by finding like a tennis ball or something.

The subject matter was quite mature despite being marketed towards kids, and the covers weren't the sorts you would expect for kids chapter books -- they were rather plain, not super cartoony or "fun" looking. The stories took themselves very seriously from what I remember. But again, this was a long time ago. I've tried looking on Christian book selling sites but can't find them on any list on Goodreads either.
