totally! i'm currently reading Paul takes the form of a mortal girl by Andrea Lawlor and the main character is ALWAYS talking about music – he mentions so many songs and artists – either because they're playing in the background or because he has something to say about them. I'm making a playlist with every mentioned artist or song that is in the book and honestly, most of them are 90s bops. this book is amazingly good for that and a lot of other reasons. it's the first playlist for a book i've done, but im getting a taste for it! i might do it in the future with other books

That's really cool, that you can look up songs from a novel!! And 90's bops are always good.

People that can make playlists from books and stuff are so POWERFUL. I cannot. I feel like I don't have a good enough music taste to even try. I do do the "oh this song reminds me of this situation" thing though but I could never make a playlist

That's okay, I sometimes don't make playlists and just go for a "general vibes" kind of thing. I do that a lot for fanfics lol. But I'm sure your taste in music is good, and probably fits something that you read! Never feel pressured to making a playlist unless you want to though.

I don't usually make playlists for books (I do for fanfic lol), but I usually try to find a playlist made by others that fit with I'm reading. It's easier when I'm reading historical novels because you can just google the period and something will come up, but you'd be surprised by the extremely specific playlist people make aahahah. My fave graphic novel has an extensive playlist of music you can listen to while reading it, and it's one of the reasons I love it so much. I read it the second time while listening and I was *weeping* when I reached the end lol
Authors and creators who create their own playlists for their works live on another level.... looking at YOU Stephanie Meyer, how can your playlists be so good when you are a white middle aged Mormon woman.

I have never seen the playlists complied by Meyer but I have heard they're good. But given that I've never read (nor plan to) her books, I guess that's okay?

I wonder if a horror novelist that compiles playlists for writing has haunting music or total bops listed in their queues? It's interesting to think about tbh.
Oh yeah definitely, they are just a *vibe*, you don't have to consume Twilight media to enjoy the vibes. And they are all on Spotify as well as her website!
I make playlists for books all the time! I have an embarrassing number of them, lol. Some are for general vibes while reading, others are inspired by books or characters I really liked, and some are just collections of songs mentioning a specific writer or thing (eg, Greek mythology or Shakespeare). But I'm *terrible* at curating them -- they end up just being massive piles of music, because sometimes when I'm really into a book, everything reminds me of it.
Being really into a book is good though I can commiserate my playlist becoming more chaotic the more into a book I am. Sometimes I suffer the opposite and can’t find those right tubes that just vibe with me and say my song, which inevitably leads me to looking for more music and then I’m spending money on music AND books!! lol
