From the very first line of A Shopgirl’s Tale we see Erika’s coping tools yet the word “Anxiety” isn’t used for over 200 pages. Why? It wasn’t intentional but in retrospect, I think it was an unintended necessity to almost trick readers into staying. If the line had stated that Erika was calming her always lingering Anxiety people might assume this was a book about mental health issues not simply a woman who has coping tools to deal with something unseen but who, also has a friend named Rachel, and who also works in a heretic store. Why? Because the truth is nobody talks about mental health. It’s whispered about or a Scarlett Letter even though, dispite the taboo, mental health it’s as normal and as crucial to take care of as physical health and wellbeing.
It’s for this reason that I’m so happy to partner with the Waffles Foundation! Anyone who makes a ten dollar or more donation to the Waffles Foundation (https://www.wafflesfoundation.org/)
for the month of May will receive a digital copy of A Shopgirl’s Tale-love letter to food, friendship, and taking leaps of faith.
Just make sure to provide an email address to receive a copy, and thank you all for your time
