ABANDONED. Nonfiction Book about Computer Addiction Memoir

In the late 80's- early 90's, I read a book about a married man who got wrapped up in RPG games and had extremly large telephone bills. I vaguely remember it took place in England or the US and the author was Indian (I think).
One scene of the book he went to meet some of the players of the game in real life.

I'm hoping some one can identify this for me.
