If the book is on Hoopla, there’s no wait, but brand new books sometimes don’t show up.

I would look into other local libraries that also use the libby app. I'm in California and have four library cards to systems that use libby and now with all of my cards added the desktop libby site will compare the wait time on all my cards for a title so I can put a hold on the one with the least time.

This is a good idea. Does it connect you with the item when it finally shows up in Libby? I'm not sure, since I've never done it before. I do know that my library does peruse these requests when deciding what to buy.
Also, some library catalogs (I didn't see the button on the LA catalog, however) allow you to save a search and get a notification if results to it ever pop up. So you could build a specific search with the title, author and format of the upcoming book and the catalog will email you when it finally gets a result. You'd then have to go to Libby to get on the list.

Yeah, I've noticed that. It says 10 weeks now.
I use Libby for most of my audiobooks. When I know a new book is out, I check several times until I see it's there & put a hold, but I somehow always miss the short hold window & have a 6 month hold by the time I see it's in the library. I don't think it changes the app, but I use a Los Angeles library card.
Is there a trick to knowing when a specific new title drops into Libby?
