Looking for a book I recall from when I was a kid in the 1980s.

Here's what I remember: A tween/teen girl is cast as the villain in the school play, but wanted to play the leading lady. Lead role had been given to girl's rival. Girl solicits help of a fairy godmother to get what she wants. Spells don't work right and only make things worse. At one point, girl and rival swap bodies. Big reveal is fairy godmother is actually only a trainee/assistant, which is why none of her spells worked properly. Actual godmother intervenes and sets everything back to how they were pre-spells. Girl plays assigned villain role and steals the show. Everyone learns valuable lessons.

Random Detail: Fairy godmother uses small, handheld computer/device to cast spells.
