i read this book a long time ago but i still remember most of it.it made me cry so hard, especially the fact that starr had to hide who she rlly was so she could be safe in an environment. i've done that many times and i still do, i mean, it's literally the reason why i'm afraid to stand up for myself-
no one should feel like they have to cover up themselves, but ppl do. and that's because it's the only way they'll be treated decently. i just hope one day that everyone will be able to show pride in themselves and who they are, without pretending to be someone else.
this book was a powerful anthem and i loved it :')
I read this book a couple of months ago, and really, really loved it! It has powerful writing and an important message. Through Starr's strong voice, Angie Thomas has shown the harsh reality of life for Black people in the USA. I highly recommend everyone to read this book!
the hate u give is one of my favourite books on this topic. i think thomas wrote it very well and also opened up a space for racism to be talked about in ya fiction where there wasn’t before.i’d also add that the movie is absolutely brilliant.

Synopsis:
"Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.
Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.
But what Starr does—or does not—say could upend her community. It could also endanger her life.
Inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, this is a powerful and gripping YA novel about one girl's struggle for justice."
