Stacey and Dawson are assigned the case to find the abandoned baby’s mother, making this Stacey’s first assignment in the field since her abduction four months ago. We later learn that Kevin is staking out her apartment late at night to ensure her safety. Does this surprise you or was it something you now would expect from the maturing DS Dawson? How’d Stacey do?

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments It surprised me a little because he kept it secret even letting Alison think he was cheating. I didn't understand why he kept it from her. She was so hurt. I believe she would understand his feeling guilty about what happened to Stacey.

Hopefully, he will take Stacey and Kim's advice and go home, be honest with Alison, and grovel a little.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments I liked that he felt guilty about Stacey's abduction and wanted to make sure she was safe. Like Sharon, I didn't understand why he just didn't tell Alison what he was doing. Their relationship has always been strained and this didn't help it.

I thought it was funny that both Stacey and Kim knew what Dawson was doing and finally told him that it wasn't his responsibility to make sure Stacey was ok.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) I agree with you both. What is the problem with Dawson's relationship with his partner that he can't be honest with her and let her know what he is doing? I really didn't understand that. Was he thinking that she would disagree with him checking on his colleague? Or be jealous? Anyhow, I like the growing connection between Stacey and Dawson . Kev is finally growing up.

I believe Dawson’s struggle with telling Alison what he was really doing had more to do with him not being ready to explain why. That would mean he’d have to talk about his guilt and care for Stacey while not fully understanding it himself. It didn’t surprise me much once I started to explore his motivations.

I used the term “maturing” in the question deliberately. Remember where this character was at the beginning of the series? Superficial, self centered and oblivious to the feelings of others. That’s certainly not where he is now and Dawson has to be confused by his own evolution. He’s got a daughter now that he loves unconditionally...he’s never loved anyone else but himself. It’s also making him think differently about women and how they’re treated.

With enlightenment comes discomfort. Another skillful piece of writing by the author.

FYI, I was initially startled to learn he was camping outside of Stacey’s apartment. But then I started evaluating this man and contrasting his past with the present. He’s evolving.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments Good points.

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) Really insightful Jonetta. After reading your post I'm thinking of Dawson more favourably now and understanding his growth more.
