It was clear from the prologue that Lauren Goddard was pushed from that roof, though her death was ruled a suicide. Did you recall her circumstances later when the note bearing her name was left anonymously with Kim? Was it helpful in determining the suspects for the subsequent murders?

Lisa - (Aussie Girl) It was a powerful start to a very dark instalment of the series. Some really horrible things are happening but at this early point the only suspect I had would have been that despicable Kai Lord.

Sharon Kallenberger Marzola | 3484 comments I agree Lisa. It was a powerful start.

When Kim showed the note to her team, I re-read the prologue looking for clues. The setting of Christmas Day, when many people are celebrating with family. This young girl who was betrayed by her mother, was getting ready to work. She was alone thinking that she is only sixteen and her life was doomed.

Initially, I thought that her mother or Kai Lord pushed her. I was waiting to see if she did something to bring the police on Kai, or her mother was pulled back to the "family business." When we meet her mother, I quickly ruled her out. Her mother doesn't care enough about Lauren to kill her. That left Kai as my suspect.

Robin (robinmy) | 2450 comments By the time Kim got the anonymous note, I forgot about how the book opened. I didn't have any viable suspects except Kai Lord at that point.

I had forgotten, too, Robin! Hats off to you, Sharon, for remembering.
