Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments TBR for July reverse readathon:
I have a few books in progress, so those will be my priority:
How Not to Diet
The First Cat in Space Ate Pizza
Babel: An Arcane History
There Are Places in the World Where Rules Are Less Important Than Kindness

I also have a new audio book to accompany me when I go out to take a walk or need to putter around the house:
Churchill's Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: The Mavericks Who Plotted Hitler's Defeat

TBE (to be eaten) for July reverse readathon:
I have:
Peanut M&Ms (a *must* for readathons)
Root beer and ice cream for a root beer float
Cherries and nectarines
Puttanesca chickpea and tomato salad
I have, alas, a dinner engagement, but at least I don't need to worry about feeding myself for that one meal!

Erin *Proud Book Hoarder* (erinpaperbackstash) | 1436 comments Sounds like a nice TBR and TBE List! Wishing you lots of fun and reading, and fun at the dinner engagement :)

Jamie | 412 comments Peanut M&Ms are a must! Happy reading!

message 54: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) | 2288 comments I’m listening to Babel right now but going to switch to an Agatha Christie as Babel is turning out to be very hard labor for me, thinking about DNFing it.

I think I must get some m&ms tomorrow (it’s 9pm here, the readathon starts at 2am here) while listening to my audiobook. I have no chocolate at ALL, a first!

message 55: by Doris (new)

Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments Hmm, I obviously got distracted from checkins during the July reverse readathon. I wonder what happened?

Anyway, I have been prepping for today's October readathon, I just haven't been posting.

Since I'm in Turkey and it really doesn't work for me to wait until 4 PM to start and then read through to mid-afternoon on Sunday, I'll be starting at 9 AM here, and I'll be at hour 8 by the time most of the rest of you are getting started. (I really *love* reverse readathons for this very reason.) Sorry to be out of sync, but it maximizes my reading time!

Food prep:
I have mushroom and goat cheese mini frittatas to be served with steamed swiss chard for breakfasts; pomegranate lentil soup all ready for lunch; and leftover moussaka for dinner. For snacks, I have a fresh pan of brownies, a bag of peanut M&Ms, and apples. For drinks, I mostly stick with green tea and water (yeah, I'm boring that way).

TBR:
I have a couple of library books due within the week on which I'm hoping to make progress:
G-Man J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century by Beverly Gage G-Man: J. Edgar Hoover and the Making of the American Century
Eve How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution by Cat Bohannon Eve: How the Female Body Drove 200 Million Years of Human Evolution
And, in case I want to mix things up (cause those two are pretty serious), the library thankfully came through for me yesterday with
Starter Villain by John Scalzi Starter Villain
(I mean, it has supervillains, unionized dolphins, hyperintelligent talking spy cats, and a terrifying henchperson: what more could a girl want for readathon reading?)
And I have others that I'll likely dabble in, but I'll just see how my mood takes me.

Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments I haven't done much pre-readathon prep this time around: I came down with a cold, and so I've been disinclined to exert myself much.
But a cozy day at home with my books sounds ideal, so I'll play along as best I can.

My TBR list is mainly made up of books I've borrowed from the library, so I expect to be working on

The Hundred Years' War on Palestine: A History of Settler-Colonial Conquest and Resistance, 1917-2017 by Rashid Khalidi

On Call: A Doctor's Journey in Public Service by Anthony Fauci

Dreadful by Caitlin Rozakis

I may also dabble a little in Syou Ishida's We'll Prescribe You a Cat

For meal prep, I have a pot of lentil soup, some frozen pizza, a batch of sweet and sour red cabbage, and, in place of my traditional peanut M&Ms, I have salted caramel M&Ms.

And, as usual (for me, anyway), since I'm in Turkey and it really doesn't work for me to wait until 3 PM to start and then read through to mid-afternoon on Sunday, I'll be starting at 9 AM here, and I'll be at hour 7 by the time most of the rest of you are getting started. I’m in the Netherlands so a similar time zone, but I actually enjoy the regular Dewey’s more than the reverse. I plan a whole weekend without distractions and it’s easier to keep focused with a good nights rest halfway the readathon lol

Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments I haven't really planned for this readathon, and my participation will be a little spotty, I fear. On Monday, I leave for a few days in Paris, so I've been preoccupied with that, and there will be Pope Francis's funeral to distract me as well. And I have a birthday cake to bake for a friend!

As is usual (for me, anyway), since I'm in Turkey and it really doesn't work for me to wait until 3 PM to start and then read through to mid-afternoon on Sunday, I'll be starting at 9 AM here, and I'll be at hour 7 by the time most of the rest of you are getting started. I do have a few books going already on which I hope to make progress:
Some People Need Killing: A Memoir of Murder in My Country,
The Bookshop: A History of the American Bookstore, and
The Crusades Through Arab Eyes

And I have laid in my mandatory stash of peanut M&Ms.

Doris (webgeekstress) | 63 comments Once again, it's the case that I haven't really planned for this readathon, and my participation will be a little spotty. On Monday, I leave for a month in the UK, so I'll be pre-occupied with laundry and shopping and other preparations for that.

I haven't really laid in much by way of snacks: since I'm preparing to leave, I'm more focused on emptying the fridge. That said, I do have some lahmacun, hummus, and cig kofte to nibble on, and there's ice cream and root beer if I want to treat myself to a root beer float. Instead of my readathon traditional peanut M&Ms, I have a stash of salted caramel M&Ms.

On my reading list, I have:
The Wrong Stuff How the Soviet Space Program Crashed and Burned by John Strausbaugh The Wrong Stuff: How the Soviet Space Program Crashed and Burned (my audio book, so I can get a little exercise) - finished
Mythos The Greek Myths Retold (Stephen Fry's Great Mythology, #1) by Stephen Fry Mythos: The Greek Myths Retold (which I'm reading as preparation for a summer class at Oxford)
Artificial Intelligence A Very Short Introduction (Very Short Introductions) by Margaret A. Boden Artificial Intelligence: A Very Short Introduction (preparation for another summer class at Oxford)
We'll Prescribe You a Cat (We'll Prescribe You a Cat, #1) by Syou Ishida We'll Prescribe You a Cat (just for fun)
Cat Ladies of the Apocalypse by Lyn Worthen Cat Ladies of the Apocalypse (a collection of short stories which I can dip into if I need something to cleanse my palate, as it were)

Fortunately, since this is the reverse readathon, I'll be more in sync with everyone!
