I'm kinda early for this one, I'm sorry! It's a super dreary day and I was craving some (fictional) sunshine.

First quarter - (view spoiler)[I love both that this is a split-chronological tale, but also that each half marks the time from 7am to 7pm and then from 7pm to 7am again.

The first chapter was pretty sad. It introduced the reader to Nina, alone and suffering after her husband's betrayal. I found Nina (and her infamous parties) interesting.

I can already foresee Ashley and Hud's photos are somehow going to get leaked, especially after it was revealed that she was with Hud's brother, Jay, first. I don't think Jay is that heartbroken though, as he seems very much in love with Lara.

I get so excited with each little nod to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, such as the mention of Celia St. James.

The flashbacks to when June and Mick met were super sweet. June seemed so naïve, with her wish for two sinks, and I hoped she wouldn't love her lovable spark as Mick started to receive more and more fame and wealth for his singing. He did the typical dick move of cheating on her and abandoning his home and children for another woman. (hide spoiler)]

Second quarter - (view spoiler)[Mick's marriage to Veronica lasted only four-months, which proved he was a piece of shit no matter who he was married to. I guessed he would return to June as they only had two children together before their divorce and there had been no mention of Kit, yet. He soon left her, again, for a woman named Cherry.

Something sinister is haunting these pages, since there was a mention that the four siblings would never ride the waves together again.

Poor June struggled so much and it was disturbing to read that Nina was the one who found her body and dragged it out all by herself. (hide spoiler)]

Third quarter - (view spoiler)[Nina took Brandon back but it all felt so forced, for him to announce his intentions in front of a room full of people. I'm glad Carrie arrived and that it made Nina realise that she didn't have to accept his love. This quote really resonated with me:

"She didn’t have to do any of this. The victimization, the acceptance of bullshit, the leaving your heart in the hands of an asshole yet again. She could just decide not to."


I loved how we got a short chapter from Ricky's perspective. Kit was completely unaware of her own lovely self and only compared herself to her sister and mother. Ricky showed that her strength was, to him, her beauty. She did not return his adoration and I am hoping she admits this to herself soon.

I loved all of the short chapters from other perspectives. It made the party seem so real, to hear that everyone was suffering from heartbreak or looking for love, feeling like an outcast and wanting to fit in or over the entire social scene and longing for solitude. No one there was happier or sadder than anyone else and they all wanted something other than what they had right then. (hide spoiler)]

Fourth quarter - (view spoiler)[This was a far quieter story than the one I was expecting but still one I found I enjoyed. I loved all the Riva siblings and was glad to see them all overcome their personal demons at the end. I would love to know if Mick really was Casey's father and what happened with Nina in Portugal, though. (hide spoiler)]

Man the font is so freaking small lmao, it's hard to read. Think I'm going to combine it with the audiobook.

Damn so Hud is cheating with Jay's girlfriend? The plot thickens. The photographs are definitely going to be seen by Jay ugh. I read Evelyn Hugo and absolutely loved it! and also Daisy Jones! 5 stars all around!!! this book though... i'm about 30% and it has not sparked that "I can't put it down" joy.
