Last week I was at the bookstore and they told me that the final part of The Kingkiller Cronicle will be released half February (in The Netherlands).

Just yesterday I was at my local barber, anywho the guy who cleans the toilets told me the rapture is this coming friday (In Finland).
Hello Tamara , maybe he was talking about the author's new novella? Sadly, Doors of Stone wont be released this year, author said so in his twitter early this year.I think its going to be a mid 2016 release IF we are lucky , might even be a 2017 release....
It's a joke at this point. Slow Regard would've been a CHAPTER in any of his other books. I've moved on.
Slick wrote: "Has there been anymore news?"No , This is what the author said last month in an AMA at Reddit:
Unfortunately, there is no publication date right now. What's more, I really don't want to guess at one.
You see, when the first book came out, I was very new to publishing, and I foolishly told people they could expect the next book in a year.
Later, when I realized I needed more time to make the second book as perfect as I could, I was forced to break that promise, and people were unhappy. And this is understandable: They felt as if they'd been lied to.
I'm trying to avoid making that mistake again. I screw up constantly, but I try to avoid fucking up in the same way twice in a row.
Rest assured that when there is a publication date. I'll make a big announcement.
So why is there a release date now? Goodreads has marked the expected publication for August 17th 2017, and I wonder where they got it from... I mean I found this date nowhere else...

I removed the release date (which was obviously based on guesswork). I'd trust Pat to go public rather quickly when he has any information about the publication date.
Tamara, I don't think that's the case... there is fairly reliable rumor stating that the editor hasn't even received a copy yet... it's typcially minimum 1 year but more like 2+ years after the editor gets their hands on it before publication so we probably still have some waitig to do assuming this is accurate: http://fantasyhotlist.blogspot.ae/201...
Me: I've moved on. Life is too short and my to-read book list is too long.
Used to be obsessed with this series but im pretty much over it.I will still read it when it's out but im sick of googleing the damn book trying to calculate a release date. A major part of me starting this series was how Pat said the books were already written and he was just "Editing" i still like the series but i just cant be bothered obsessing anymore.
I agree and it's not sour grapes at this point, 5 years later... it's totally reasonable to be over it
Rothfuss has sold the rights to the book to Lionsgate and that's why it is taking forever to release the third book. They want to do movies, tv series, and video games. You can google this to confirm if you want. He's waiting for these to take off before releasing the final book. Don't expect the third book for quite some time. Even though I loved the first two books I am refusing to read the final book. Rothfuss is milking this for all its worth, ok good for him, but I'd rather support authors who don't intentionally string the readers along. He doesn't care about the readers, and it shows by his intentional lies about release dates. Remember when he said that "all the books are completed, just need editing" about 5 years ago?

You can google this to confi..."Game of Thrones somehow managed to both release books AND have shows/spin-offs...wonder why he can't. At this point I've forgotten 50% of the details and I am not buying the books again so I'm likely done with this series as well. Bummer.
I was thinking this story would adapt well to movies and television. Lionsgate is wise on this. So many things can happen in translation though. Wrong actors, unable to catch the wit or banter. Catering to viewers. I respected that Rothfuss wanted to polish the book and turn 3.5 stars into 5. Now it sounds more like a money thing. If we wrote a book, then we would want to get paid from it as well. I could understand that. Fortunately, I was lucky in that I just started reading the series this year. I wish you all the best of luck in dealing with the suffering of an unfinished story.
I have the first two books and have not read them. I won't until the third one comes out. I refuse to torture myself with unfinished series. If they aren't complete, I won't even purchase them.
Most likely:"Quit entering bullshit publication dates for my book. All it does it piss people off.
When there's a publication date, I'll announce it on my blog, then come over here and plug it in myself, fair enough? "
- Patrick Rothfuss
Don't know for sure but i think for a Series as massive as this one the Audiobook would be released the same time as the book..
You can find the quote at the bottom of this page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/edit/1...And no, you can't trust Goodreads. Much of the information in here is crowdsourced and hence the unreliability. This is especially true when it comes to the future and first publication dates of books.
