I used to get a daily email with all the discussion posts from groups I checked off, but that hasn't come through since Sep. 25. I wasn't great about keeping up that way anyway, so it isn't the end of the world. I'll find a way to do it through the site, I suppose.
They have ceased sending any emails at all. A long time ago, I just clicked on “follow all discussions in the group” instead of for each individual thread. It works for me, if I don’t wait too long to check (the notification tab on the app only shows the most recent 30). It is only slightly overwhelming at the end of the month when there’s a lot of changeover.
At least this way, I see when new threads get started and I don’t have to remember to follow any one particular thing. You can opt into all on any thread and if there’s anything you decide you really can’t be bothered with you can unfollow that particular thread.
As I said, it works for me, but may not be for everyone.
I'm still getting the daily friend* review emails, but as has been true for quite a while, it's only a selection of maybe a dozen of the ones that they posted and what is used to determine who is favored is a mystery. Near useless.* (and follow?) It's been a while since I bothered to look at these and I don't remember.
I haven't seen a post from the group in ages, and now I know why...so please indulge me as I make another post of this:GROUP ANNOUNCEMENT.
If you have noticed that you are not receiving notifications of posts on your group threads, that is a new design by Goodreads. It applies to all of your groups, and all of your reviews. To get these notifications again, or to be sure you still get them, check the "notify me when people comment" box under *every* review you want to follow and on all the group threads you want to follow. Otherwise you won't be sure of being notified of comments.
Thanks for telling me about this thread, Anna.
It seems many of us continue to experience varying issues with the "notify me" checkbox in group threads and review commentsPlease send your issue details to GR support. It's likely that the more they hear from us, the more examples they see, the sooner we will get a fix. It's worth a try

And... My notifications have failed. Again. The last time I reported this the back and forth I had with GR support went on for weeks. In the end I got nothing useful from them.
I don't have the time or patience for this anymore.
It's so frustrating, we feel your pain. If you decide to ditch GR, we would love to see you on The Story Graph, which is new, but seems to be a growing book lover community with this club preserved on it!
Thanks. I feel your GR pain too.I mostly switched to The Story Graph for book and challenge management a couple of years ago and am enjoying that experience. It looks like their book club support is still in the early stages but they seem to be committed to improving it. I'm planning to spend more time there in the future.
I find going to the COMMUNITY - DISCUSSIONS tab is better than notifications. It lets you follow all the threads without the glitches of notifications.

Thanks.

Quick question for those on StoryGraph. Did importing your library from GoodReads go well? It would be a lot to re-enter.
Economondos wrote: "Quick question for those on StoryGraph. Did importing your library from GoodReads go well? It would be a lot to re-enter."I didn't have any problems! The process wasn't instantaneous, but it worked really well.
I imported my library from GR a couple of years ago, so I don’t remember how long it took, but it was fairly painless. What I’m really pleased about is that my tags were all preserved!
This thread is for GR notifications, please move over here to talk about TSG: The StoryGraph.(A new thread might be coming, I don't know, but for now it's still the place for all things TSG.)
I haven't received a single notification in over two days now. What is the problem this time with GR notifications?
Not sure, but I had the same thing today. Went to a couple of my usual topics and sure enough, plenty of new postings. Just no Notifications.
Glad it isn't just me. I only get notifications when friends like an update from my personal page but nothing from any of my GR groups. It started over the weekend for me--I just thought maybe people were busy with the holiday coming up and weren't logging on to GR!
I've been calling this "the mod bug", because I had previously only noticed it in relation to mod things, but now that I'm no longer a mod and am still seeing this problem, I figured I'd let everyone know how to fix it!First the mod thing. If in any group you look at the group homepage (or list of mods) and see one of the mods with a "last active" date, but you know they've been on GR since that date, they've got this issue. It doesn't affect their mod status but it makes it look as though they're inactive, which isn't great for a mod.
For regular users, you can see the "last active" date on their profile. So you can look at your own GR profile, and if you see a "last active" date that is not "this month", it means you have this issue.
The biggest problem for all users is that when you have this issue, it seems to stop all notifications from GR. So it makes sense to check for this if you're having problems with notifs.
As for how to fix it? Log out of GR on *all devices* and log back in. This is probably not a problem for those people who always log in/out for each session, but more so for people like me who are always logged in on several devices. I don't know and have no patience to find out, but I *think* it might be related to the "keep me logged in" cycle, because it seems to happen every few months for me.
I hope this helps!
(For example, both Economondos and CJ, who say above that they're having notif issues, have a past "last active" date on their profiles, so try this!)
I never had this problem before mid-January and then I noticed I wasn’t getting any notifications for anything in any of my groups, only when people interacted with my activity on the feed. It took me a moment to work out there was a problem. It hadn’t seemed like a sudden change. People in another group knew the fix. I didn’t actually sign out on my desktop, just on my iPhone and iPad and that did the trick.
As of April 15 I no longer receive notifications for anything except people who like one of my reviews. Just signed out and back in again. Hopefully that fixes it, will find out later when I reboot and bring up everything from scratch.
yYu need to select "Notify me when people comment" on every thread to recieve notifications now.
If you want to follow everything a group does, it may be more effective to go to the COMMUNITY tab and select DISCUSSIONS rather than rely on notifications.

I have that checked on the various threads I follow (not enough time to follow everything). But even those had no notifications. However, after signing out, clearing the cache and history, rebooting, and signing back in the problem seems to be solved.
DivaDiane wrote: "I didn’t actually sign out on my desktop, just on my iPhone and iPad and that did the trick."Signing out on my phone worked to get desktop notifications back for me.
Some folks are reporting that the notification checkbox has started to working again for their comments on book reviews. It doesn't appear to be retroactive, but they say the checkbox no longer appears to be un-checking itself after you check it. And they have started to receive (bell) notifications.I haven't tested it myself yet, but I thought I'd share the news

Yeah, same for me. And it's hard to keep updated."
I really enjoyed those author emails.
