Notifications

Now I'm being notified that people are posting in threads and even when I check via the Web I can't find the post. That's more frustrating than no notifications.

I got a notification for this in a tolerable duration of time! Did the Finnish postal service take over Goodreads?!

Postal service*s*; not all mail comes handled by Posti alone anymore, after all. With that many operators in the mix, it's no wonder the punctuality has gone rather downhill.

There's a help post indicating this was done intentionally, and temporarily, but with no current ETA for restoration:

Maybe this is their way of dealing with the issues we were talking about in message #’s 40 and 41. I’d rather get a blank e-mail notification than no e-mail notification, at least. :)

The "top friend" check mark in the boxes seem to be toggling off and on, so I am missing lotsa updates.
I also had no idea that someone had accepted my friend request; normally this shows up in my feed. I would have thanked that person in a timely fashion had I known. It was when I was in the edit friends section, horsing around with these missing top friend checkmarks, that I saw that person in my friend list. Here I had been feeling all kinds of sorry for myself since they didn't respond to my request (😉), when they had accepted it who-knows-when.

Mine seems stable in recent weeks (I just checked it again), but I've had that problem in the past. Drives me crazy(er)!

We’re in the same boat😂😂

Me, too. At first I thought that everyone was being awfully quiet.

I also saw my notifications list stay empty for about a day, which is unprecedented for me. Then, I just received an avalanche of 43 notifications in one shot. The GR system is broken and getting worse every month. I am seriously asking myself if I really want to stay with such a poorly run company (not targetting our mods, who do excellent work with little or no support from GR).

Goodreads has the coding quality of a one-week school project, at least when it comes to discussions. If you compare it to any forum system, it's lacking in all aspects - anti-spam, moderation, quoting, tools for group mods, linking, referencing other posts, you name it...
...if Amazon wanted to make it a decent site, they'd have to rebuild it from the ground up.

Amy, I’m sighing right along with you.,,

This is the third time that I've seen this (or at least noticed it) in the last two days.

This might be a good place to remind folks we have a Discord server and a group at Librarything! I am not presently active there, but I can be. The mods are actively looking at alternatives should GR continue to be unusable.
