Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments I finished my first book and typically my fickle mind chose a completely different book. It's been on my radar and when it popped up on Scribd i went for it. It fits perfectly with the guidelines- haldi yellow cover and marriages. May for me (when I growing up) was synonymous with weddings. All my many masis ...
The Marriage Clock by Zara Raheem

Rating 🌟 🌟 .5 disappointed.😪

finished book 1 of this challenge..the small town sea by Anees Salim. 1. The Small-Town Sea by Anees Salim -
loved this poignant mood depressor. would recommend to all...
a five star read.
a heart rending tale.
I am not a fan of melancholy , but this one was so beautifully told that was dragged in to the life of the hapless boy . How I weep for him ( figuratively) and how I started counting my blessings.

I will read this one again ...some day.
am so glad that I own a paperback.

I finished 1 book - The Rising Sun which was a good Crichton thriller loaded with Japanese corporate culture and Japan vs America thingy.

Currently reading Yellow Emperor's Cure - thoroughly enjoying. A Portugal doctor in China of early 20th century.

These two books with 4 countries would make a good armchair pair too!

With a month into the challenge - managed to finish 6 books on the theme. None too summary in terms of cheer and relaxation.

1. The Small-Town Sea by Anees Salim - a 5 star read that was both brilliant and sad

2. A Burning by Megha Majumdar - a 3 star BR that lit up with scorching prose

3. Red Scarf Girl by Ji-li Jiang - a 3 star memoir of the cultural revolution in China. Mine was a bright yellow cover.

4. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie - 4 bright stars for the story set in civil war of Nigeria

5. வாடிவாசல் Vaadivaasal by சி.சு. செல்லப்பா - 5 stars for this short novella on Jallikattu

6. Amnesty by Aravind Adiga - 3 star illegal migrant tale set in Sydney.

For the rest of the month - might pick up 1 or 2 other books related to the theme.

Do update your reading progress

Yes. And as usual, the book is much better than the movie!

message 77: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments Good.. because the movie was really boring with terrible production.

message 78: by Gorab, TheGunman (new)

Gorab (itsgorab) | 3765 comments Mod
Boring? We sure are on opposite extremes of taste spectrum (if such a thing exists) :D

message 79: by Leena (new)

Leena Aluru (mgleena) | 7181 comments of course it exists. that's why we have diverse viewpoints. but, yes I really couldn't like that movie. I'd found it such a sham and I was truly looking forward to it. the entrie potato farming was very impossible. and I like sci-fi movies. so, this one wasn't for me.
