Here I am, halfway through On Earth We're Briefly Gorgeous and I can already consider it one of my fav books :) It pains my little heart, but yet I love it!

Hailey wrote: "i’m reading rule of wolves and it’s SO MUCH better than king of scars and i’m not that far in"that's really nice! It's so great when the second books turn out to be better than the first ones :)
Wren wrote: "I'm reading Renegades and it's GrEAt!!"Eeee im so happy to hear that!! I cant wait to read the series, hopefully ill be able to get to it soon

I'm currently reading Lawn Boy by Jonathan Evison. I'm reading it because it's on a banned books list, and I'm trying to read banned books so I can speak to their content as I am a librarian. If you have any other suggestions for hot topic banned books I should read, please let me know! I am especially interested in reading children's books that have been challenged or banned.

If yo..."Wow, reading banned books sounds really interesting! And working as a librarian sounds great too! My favorite banned book is 1984 but it is for sure not a children's book. I'm open for recs if you believe there is a banned book everyone should read!

Haha. That dystopian vision is so terrifying. Unfortunately, there are a lot of children's and YA books that have been challenged and banned. Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak was banned because Max is an angry child (recall days of "children must be seen and not heard). I'm still working on reading more banned books, so I don't have a lot of recs, but if you haven't read Speak by Laurie Halse Anderson, then I would recommend that. It was banned for sexual content. It is about a female HS student who is raped and shows her struggle to tell anyone what happened to her.

There are so many that have been banned. I definitely feel like I have a dream job. It's taken a long time to get here!

That doesn't make sense! Anyway, I'll sure check out Speak, it sounds interesting :)
Dreamer wrote: "I actually started re-reading The Phantom of the Opera for the 16th time... Totally crazy"I think if you're going to some island, one of the things you'd bring would be that book :) Could you share in one sentence why you love it so much/the beauty of the book, with no spoilers?
riley rue wrote: "Dreamer wrote: "I actually started re-reading The Phantom of the Opera for the 16th time... Totally crazy"I think if you're going to some island, one of the things you'd bring would..."
In one sentense? That's so hard! I don't think I could explain it in less than 1000 pages :) So I'll mention just one of the reasons why I love it: it's just perfect how the villain is not trully a villain, and how people can be cruel because they've never be loved ( that sounds like I'm describing The Phantom of the Opera, Wuthering Heights and Frankenstein in one)

I love stories with complex villains. This is one I've never read or seen. Would you also recommend the movie?
Trisha wrote: "Dreamer wrote: "riley rue wrote: "Dreamer wrote: "I actually started re-reading The Phantom of the Opera for the 16th time... Totally crazy"I think if you're going to some island, o..."
Well, the movie is one of the good adaptations, but yet the book is 1000 times better!
Dreamer wrote: "riley rue wrote: "Dreamer wrote: "I actually started re-reading The Phantom of the Opera for the 16th time... Totally crazy"I think if you're going to some island, one of the things..."
Oh I understand that perfectly! Showing that villains aren't just a tumble of evil balled into one, but rather humans with just different perspectives really add depth into the work. I will definitely read that someday, that's a perfect way of recommending the book. (those other three you just said included!)
The Thursday Murder Club is my current read! Light narrative, slightly humorous so far, and just what I need at the moment. I'm not expecting an amazing book/ending, but I hope it at least turns out to be entertaining. Not sure if anyone here's heard of the book? I see it popping up a lot lately.

But since you say it's entertaining, I might add it again :)
I have to fairly say, I feel like it's not your best bet if you're looking for an AMAZING read. (I didn't pick it up for that reason, too!) I feel like if you're looking just for a light and possibly entertaining book, that's probably nice, but your money would likely be better spent elsewhere if you're searching for a new stunning read. (of course, I haven't finished it, so who knows? just my current thoughts)
i’m on the last book of the Gregor the Overlander series by Suzanne Collins. it’s so underrated and i love it! def recommend
Shawna wrote: "I'm rereading Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone and I love it of course"I'm one of those people who have the unpopular opinion HP is a bit overrated, but it's really nice to have different opinions :)
