Sadly no :s it was a bit more cheesy 2000s looking than that. The kid I think was centered at the bottom or the middle of the novel too.
And I swear the villains name in the game or something was like Melt Man or Hot man or something along that nature but I could easily be wrong.

Book has been found by a reddit user that I also posted this question to.
I was actually close in the title.
It was Meltdown Man !

I'm trying to remember the name of this book that I read when I was a kid (I'm thinking somewhere in the early 2000s circa 01 - 04 maybe) that I cannot remember the name of.
I remember the cover in today's standards looks quite cheesy with I think the main character and he's got his sunglasses down in this cool pose but his eyes are like red because I think in the story he becomes averse to sunlight or something of that nature.
From what I remember, its about this kid who finds a computer game of some sorts either at school randomly or someone gave it to him. I do remember he goes to the computer lab to play it and he enjoys it quite a bit, but doesn't tell anyone about it. Next day, I believe he wakes up and he has like an extreme aversion to bright lights and starts wearing sunglasses and starts having like weird side effects from the game and I believe the way for him to cure himself is to beat the game or something along those lines.
I don't think this book was a widespread popular one, might have been one I saw at a Scholastic book fair or something like that, but I'm trying to refind it again.
