This is a sci-fi book series that I read in 2012-2017. I believe it is set in 20th century (?) England, and the main character is a young woman. I think the cover may show her standing near water (?) and the cover is in greyish/brownish tones.

The first book starts with this young woman talking to a bunch of guys who go to medical school. She is dared to sneak into the medical school to see the cadavers. I don't remember what else happens in that book, but there are I think one or two more books in the series.

This may or may not be a modern (ish) retelling of The Island of Doctor Moreau.

SPOILERS AHEAD:

The girl somehow ends up meeting her father who is a scientist. He invites her to the island where he experiments on animals using vivisection. She later finds out that all the people that live on the island are actually animals that have been turned into humans. She escapes the island with one of her fathers helpers (Bartholomew may be his name but I'm not confident), but if I'm not wrong, he later turns on her.
