SOLVED. Children's book from 60s or 70s about a boy who stayed home from school

My mom got this book when she was a kid (60s or 70s) as part of a book club (books would be delivered once a month).
She said the book was about a boy who pretended to be sick so he could stay home from school, and then shows all of his activities. He uses string to create a pulley system to turn his lights on and bring him good, etc. She thought the cover was of him in bed with a big ball of string.
