Cbrin | 4 comments This book was supposedly listed on a recommended reading list for middle school. I read it around 2011-2012 but I can't find a single mention of it anywhere. It really left a mark on me, so I'd love to find the title. I apologize in advance for any details that I remembered incorrectly.

The plot centers around a teenage (?) girl who ran away from home as a result of a traumatic event. Near the beginning of the book, she hitchhikes with a stranger and they have sex in his truck. I think his nickname was Rabbit (or something similar). He falls for her and offers to take care of her, but she runs away from him. She later finds out that she is pregnant, and a kind couple (?) living near a lake (or ocean) in a small town take her in. For most of the book, she comes to terms with her pregnancy, her mental health struggles, and her traumatic past, and grows to care about the people around her. At some point, she also gets attached to her future baby and names her Star. She talks about her connection with the baby a lot. Closer to the end of the book, she suffers a miscarriage (it was fairly graphic: she saw bloody clumps in her underwear and immediately knew that Star was gone). She's inconsolable, but in the end, she re-unites with her one night stand who still cares about her, and they talk about having another child. I remember a scene where she went swimming at night, under the stars. I think she also almost drowns in another scene, but is saved by someone who heard her cries for help. Throughout the book, she was struggling with some trauma or mental illness, potentially anorexia, although I don't remember the exact details.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I believe the author was female, but I'm not sure. It wasn't a very old book; I think it was published after 2000. Not a classic, and I wasn't able to find it while skimming through Goodreads' list of books about teen pregnancy. Unfortunately, the original book recommendation list is long gone. I'll update the post if I remember anything. Thanks in advance!

UPDATE: The name of the book is True Confessions of a Heartless Girl! Thank you!
