SOLVED. Adult Fantasy/Urban Fantasy book where a character at some point is jailed and some magical dogs come through the walls and the bars of the cell to try to kill them. [s]

Hello! Looking for an urban fantasy book that I read pretty recently (like in the last 5 years or so) but totally can't recall the title or author of.

I know there is a mystery element and the main character is either looking into a series of murders or killings or they're tangentially related to them.

The one specific scene I clearly remember and that is when that the main character due to the machinations of the villain/murderer is unjustly put in a jail cell within a sheriff or police station, (I think the setting may be somewhat historical in some way) and suddenly these magical dogs appear that have the ability to fade in and out of the tangible world so you literally can't stab them or kill them because they can exist on the physical plane one moment and not exist in another (like your hand and any weapon literally goes through them like they were ghosts).

They phase through the bars and the walls of the jail to attack the protagonist and they have to desperately fight them off (getting terribly mauled) until they are saved by one of their allies. In the process of this fight, the character figures out the trick to fighting the dogs, i.e. how to force them to become fully physical for enough time so they can be killed.

Any assistance in helping me figure this out is super appreciated!

This sounds a lot like the dogs in one of Jordan L. Hawk's Whybourne and Griffin books. I can't remember the one that introduces the weird blink dogs - maybe Draakenwood? While one of the heroes is in the jail a mysterious stranger shows up that has a powder that when he throws it on the dog it can't blink out of our dimension and that's how they kill them. The other hero has the ability to see magic/otherworldy things and he's able to see where the dog is about to appear, and later in the book can kill them by thrusting his sword-cane into the spot the dog is about to manifest in.
