SOLVED. Thriller with wanna be Japanese computer hacker [s]

In the past year I read (real book, hardback I believe) a thriller (aimed at adults) where the protagonist was helped by an extra fat American hacker/computer genius. The hacker was in trouble with one of the federal law enforcement agencies and the protagonist was ultimately able to get him released from prison. The hacker also wanted to be Japanese and kept his apartment in Japanese furnishings. I believe the hacker lived in NYC.

I can't remember the plot of the thriller, but I'm pretty sure it was a new-ish book. Recently I've read I Am Pilgrim, Suspicion by Joseph Finder, The Directive by Matthew Quirk, some of the Joe DeMarco books by Mike Lawson, some of the Jack Reacher novels, along with others. Please help, this is driving me crazy, and I can't find any reference to it through any books I've marked as "read" on Goodreads.

Thank you for the post. I can't remember anything about the cover. If it is part of a series, it would be either book one or two (unless it is a Jack Reacher or Joe DeMarco book). The story takes places today. I wish I could remember more.
