Aiswrya | 1213 comments I’m going to call it a night. My brain is no longer processing the words 😂 read about 110 pages, 2 and half hours. Will check in in the morning. Have fun everyone!

message 52: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I started right on time at my 8pm, read for about 15 min before getting interrupted, then restarted the count at my 8:30pm, and have just now finished a stretch of 3 consecutive hours.
So that's one mini-challenge complete! I'm a little less than 1/2 done with my book.

It is really good! The writing is very impressive. Super vivid and lush without being purple. The story world feels old and lived-in. According to GR, I've encountered Sofia Samatar's work in a couple of short story anthologies in the past, but I would need to go back and refresh my memory as to whether her writing in short form was this good. Because it's reaaalllly good.

I'm taking a break just to post and then I'm going to read some more. I'll check in again in the morning, probably. I've been going to sleep way too late recently, but now I can pretend it was all preparation for going to bed late tonight, lol.

Ooh, I read that a long time ago and have been meaning to pick up the next installment! I liked but didn't totally love it, though, so I haven't been in a rush. Curious to hear what you think!

Sophie (drsophie) | 5684 comments Mod
Sounds like everyone is making a very good start to this. I've finished off Plan for the Worst, read a bit of The Duke and I and am listening to Ashes of Honor while I update things on here. Pretty sure that I'm not going to manage any of the mini-challenges though.

* Read at least 750 pages in 24 hours
* Participate in a buddy read during the sprint (create your thread here, you don't have to wait for a mod to create it for you)
* Read for a minimum of 3 consecutive hours
* Spell out "DEAR" (standard spell-it-out rules apply, you would have to read 4 books, each at least 100 pages long)
* Read a book published on April 12th of any year

I just finished a buddyread read with Pooja.
The book was Winne the Pooh

message 58: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments I didn’t end up reading much more last night after my 3+ hour stretch because my battery was dying, argh! I stayed up too late anyway, doing something else like a moron. Now I am awake and about to be reading again after I am assured that my daughter is busy 😆

Oh good! I'm going to give the three hour read another shot this afternoon. Hoping I make it!

Between that and the fact that it's a read for the Inside Out challenge is what made me stick with it. Otherwise I would probably have abandoned it 15 minutes in! lol.

message 66: by Audrey Jane (new)

Audrey Jane | 1815 comments Half way through my 3 hours read. Currently reading the hardcover version of The Girl in the Tower; read 51 pages so far.

This book has been gathering dust on my nightstand for a while now (after several failed attempts of starting it). Glad I picked it up again for this sprint, I'm enjoying it !

message 69: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Just finished my Olondria book!
Read intermittently for a few hours and then got in another 3+ hour stretch 1:15-4:30 my time.
So I finished two 3+ hour stretches, and a book published on 12 April.
😃

I may start my next book before DEAR Day is officially over, but definitely won’t finish, so I’m callin’ it.

message 70: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Hey, just thought... Do I get 2 coins because I completed 2 different mini-challenges? Or 3 total because I did the 3+ hours thing twice?
🤔

The other Sandy | 282 comments Alysa wrote: "Ooh, I read that a long time ago and have been meaning to pick up the next installment! I liked but didn't totally love it, though, so I haven't been in a rush. Curious to hear what you think!"

Like it but not love it is about my reaction so far at 41% in. Surprisingly little has happened so far, and I don't feel much about any of it. There's a lot of potential, though, so I keep hoping something will happen.

message 72: by Judy (new)

Judy | 4065 comments I finished A Curious Beginning! This was a super fun time and I'm glad I finally got around to starting this series – now when to continue with book 2...

I'm also around a third through First Comes Like which, just like basically every other Alisha Rai book, I'm loving!

I don't think I'll read much more before DEAR Day ends and I definitely won't hit any challenges... but I did read more in the past 24 hours than I have in weeks (things that aren't for uni, that is)! So I call it a success!

message 73: by April (new)

April Raimond | 83 comments Only got 3 hours read this morning. 340 am to 700 am.
Busy day back to work after 2 weeks off.

message 74: by Kristie (last edited Apr 12, 2021 05:53PM) (new)

Kristie | 3595 comments This was a great DEAR day!! I haven't quite finished my book yet, but I made it to 85% and I have 4 hours left before my loan expires.

I looked at the library loan and it says the license has expired so I can't even get it back if I don't finish! Glad I decided to read this one in a sprint. :)

Update - I finished the book 50 minutes after the sprint with time to spare! Woot!

message 75: by Laurie B (new)

Laurie B | 928 comments Overall, a successful sprint! I managed a three-hour chunk earlier today and almost spelled DEAR - I did finish my R book, but 12 minutes past the deadline. 🤪

All total, I read from 6 different books, which included 557 pages and 26 minutes of an audiobook.

message 76: by Aiswrya (new)

Aiswrya | 1213 comments Great job, everyone!

I managed my three hour sprint this afternoon. Made a significant dent in my 750 page book. Overall, I’m happy with my reading today!

No biggie either way. I just like to look at my pretty coins. :)
There are some challenges like that, where you can do multiple rounds and get a coin each round, and others like this one where the coin rules seem somewhat ambiguous.

message 80: by Alysa (new)

Alysa H. | 3840 comments Congrats, fellow DEARs! Or is it DEARers? Droppers?
I’ll go with DEARs, haha.

Next year 12 April will be a Tuesday...
*attempts to plan day way too far ahead* 🙃
