So that's one mini-challenge complete! I'm a little less than 1/2 done with my book.
It is really good! The writing is very impressive. Super vivid and lush without being purple. The story world feels old and lived-in. According to GR, I've encountered Sofia Samatar's work in a couple of short story anthologies in the past, but I would need to go back and refresh my memory as to whether her writing in short form was this good. Because it's reaaalllly good.
I'm taking a break just to post and then I'm going to read some more. I'll check in again in the morning, probably. I've been going to sleep way too late recently, but now I can pretend it was all preparation for going to bed late tonight, lol.

Duration: April 12, 2021
Goal: 3 consecutive hours
Title: Witchmark by C.L. Polk..."
Ooh, I read that a long time ago and have been meaning to pick up the next installment! I liked but didn't totally love it, though, so I haven't been in a rush. Curious to hear what you think!
Sounds like everyone is making a very good start to this. I've finished off Plan for the Worst, read a bit of The Duke and I and am listening to Ashes of Honor while I update things on here. Pretty sure that I'm not going to manage any of the mini-challenges though.

* Read for a minimum of 3 consecutive hours
* Spell out "DEAR" (standard spell-it-out rules apply, you would have to read 4 books, each at least 100 pages long)
* Read a book published on April 12th of any year
* Read at least 750 pages in 24 hours

Oh good! I'm going to give the three hour read another shot this afternoon. Hoping I make it!

Oof! At least you get a shiny tourmaline coin out of it!

Between that and the fact that it's a read for the Inside Out challenge is what made me stick with it. Otherwise I would probably have abandoned it 15 minutes in! lol.

This book has been gathering dust on my nightstand for a while now (after several failed attempts of starting it). Glad I picked it up again for this sprint, I'm enjoying it !

Book read: All the Bright Places by Jennifer Niven
Reading time: 2:45-5:45pm (GMT+3)

Drop Everything & Read (DEAR) Challenge 2021
Duration: My time starts from April 11, 7pm
* Read for a minimum of 3 consecutive hours : 8:00 - 11:40 am = 3 hr 40 min - Finished Wyrd Sisters 64 pg and You, Me, and the Sea 368 pgs
Started again on 1:10 - 4 pm = 3 hr 10 min Read Sweetest Scoundrel 271 pg
Total pages read 703
Minimum reading of 3 consecutive hours Completed.
Tried for reading 750 pages but fall short of just 47.

Read intermittently for a few hours and then got in another 3+ hour stretch 1:15-4:30 my time.
So I finished two 3+ hour stretches, and a book published on 12 April.
😃
I may start my next book before DEAR Day is officially over, but definitely won’t finish, so I’m callin’ it.

🤔

Like it but not love it is about my reaction so far at 41% in. Surprisingly little has happened so far, and I don't feel much about any of it. There's a lot of potential, though, so I keep hoping something will happen.

I'm also around a third through First Comes Like which, just like basically every other Alisha Rai book, I'm loving!
I don't think I'll read much more before DEAR Day ends and I definitely won't hit any challenges... but I did read more in the past 24 hours than I have in weeks (things that aren't for uni, that is)! So I call it a success!

I looked at the library loan and it says the license has expired so I can't even get it back if I don't finish! Glad I decided to read this one in a sprint. :)
Update - I finished the book 50 minutes after the sprint with time to spare! Woot!

All total, I read from 6 different books, which included 557 pages and 26 minutes of an audiobook.

I managed my three hour sprint this afternoon. Made a significant dent in my 750 page book. Overall, I’m happy with my reading today!

Haha I’m going to say no, but I’ll check with the other mods to see how they did it before my time here 😊

No biggie either way. I just like to look at my pretty coins. :)
There are some challenges like that, where you can do multiple rounds and get a coin each round, and others like this one where the coin rules seem somewhat ambiguous.

I’ll go with DEARs, haha.
Next year 12 April will be a Tuesday...

Wow, that is super impressive, Laurie!

Thanks! I had an unexpected day off work, so that helped. It was nice to have an excuse to just read all day, lol!

It's going to be a single coin, sorry :(
